iancal Posted April 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2017 We spent two nights in Hoi An. It was especially nice in the evening when everything was lit up with traditional lanterns. Very nice place to visit.
Cruzer Two Posted April 4, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted April 4, 2017 We spent two nights in Hoi An. It was especially nice in the evening when everything was lit up with traditional lanterns. Very nice place to visit. That must have been beautiful to see. We went by the handicraft store where a gentleman was making the lanterns. We should have brought one home, but Hoi An was one of our first stops on the 48 day cruise/tour of Southeast Asia and we didn't want to hand carry it for the remainder of the trip. Thanks for the comments!
Grant2000 Posted April 8, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2017 We did a tour of Hoi An last year with Royal Caribbean and really enjoyed it. There are lots of interesting places to visit near Da Nang Vietnam. http://cruiseports.ca/asia/danang-vietnam.html
tring Posted April 14, 2017 #7 Share Posted April 14, 2017 Another interesting video - thank you. We were booked on a cruise where we would have spent 7 port days in Vietnam and also gone to Yangon early this year, but sadly the cruise line went bust. Now looking to re arrange something similar, but the bigger ships have far less ports, so will need some land sections we are thinking.

Smaller ships are more desirable for Asian cruises. We made 4 stops in Vietnam! I'm not aware of any cruises to Yangon on the major cruise lines. Holland America has substituted Indonesia for Myanmar on their Asian cruises.
tring Posted April 14, 2017 #9 Share Posted April 14, 2017 The port is a long way from the city of Yangon and even 30,000 ton ships have to go to the out of town port. The 15,000 ton ship we were due to visit on was scheduled to dock in the centre, but those size ships are now a dying breed on the more affordable lines as they just cannot make a profit from it. The massively expensive expedition cruise ships are likely the only possibility for that and costs are way out of our reach. Surprising how well you can do on a land holiday by comparison, though it does take lot of work to sort out an itinerary. Cheers, Barbara
