riviera Posted April 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2017 We are going to Cuba on Carnival Paradise. It says we need visa (they take care of it and charge your onboard account $75) That's fine, but it also says they require a passport. My sister only has a passport card. Anyone know if that is okay since we won't be flying anywhere?
sandij Posted April 2, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2017 They do require a passport, you should call and ask first.
thinfool Posted April 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2017 Yeah, for a sketchy trip like a US cruise line visiting Cuba, I think that "passport" means "passport".
riviera Posted April 3, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted April 3, 2017 Thanks I think you're right! She still has time to replace that "card" with a "real" passport.
starrcards Posted May 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2017 Just an FYI. We recently renewed our passports (We needed 6 months post cruise life on them). Turn around time was 11 (eleven) days!
VidaNaPraia Posted May 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 7, 2017 The "rules" seem somewhat ambiguous, since Cuba IS in the Caribbean and you are not traveling by air. The travel.state.gov site says the passport card can be used: "Entering the United States at land border crossings and sea ports-of-entry from: Canada Mexico The Caribbean BermudaThe passport card cannot be used for international air travel." and "The passport book and passport card are both U.S. passports. If issued for the full validity, they are both proof of your U.S. citizenship and identity. "
CRUIS4ME Posted May 8, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2017 Passport books are required as they will take the visa and stamp the passport. That allows you entry and exit out of Cuba. Get the passport book.
pbenjamin Posted May 8, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 8, 2017 They will not stamp your passport unless you ask them to, at least that was our experience.
