One option you should look at is doing a one way cruise between Australia and NZ. Start in one country, do some land travel to see areas that aren't covered by your cruise, then cruise, then finsh with more land travel.

 

NZ is best in February/March but Australia is still quite hot then, so if you're planning around those dates do NZ first. If you're thinking of travelling before Christmas do Australia first.
