The easiest way I have figured Formal Nights on a 7 day Cruise.   2nd Night is Formal # 1, The final formal Night  will be held two nights before arriving back to Port. If your cruise goes as an example, March 1 to 8. ( Sunday to Sunday ) then 1st formal will be March 2nd and final Formal March 6th . March 7th everyone is packing to put luggage out at night to disembark on the 8th. On longer ( 14 days )  then 2nd formal will be near the end of the 1st week or that weekend.

Just got off Symphony and as others have said it was both the "sea nights" but again only as a suggestion.  I'd say about 1/2 the crowd (maybe less) gets formerly dressed.  We only dressed the second night, the first one was tan shorts and polo shirt for me.
