How do you carry your cruise card?

Great idea!!

Do you punch a hole through your ship card or does someone from the cruise line do it for you??

On our recent Carnival Cruise the card came with a hole. Other times you can get them punched at the front desk or in the casino (if they have plastic spring lanyards). I began taking my own hole punch but apparently newer cards with embedded RFID chips and antennas shouldn't be punched. Then you can use the clear plastic lanyard sleeve type sold in the gift shop.

Carnival cards are now pre punched. I keep a cheap hole punch in my carry on bag for other cruise lines although some have said you can go to the casino for a hole punch.

UN-FLIPPING BELIEVEABLE!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose the "Lanyard vs. Pocket" debate needs to be revived periodically --- making it quite possibly the most deeply studied cruise topic on these threads. But for it to evolve from an on-topic conversation to an evaluation of the etiquette of discussing lanyards really gives pause for thought.

Agreed, some people have too much time on their hands. makes me wonder if it is trolling or just plain rudeness.

Many lines have holes punched in the cards now and for those that do not, you can go to guest services and have it done for you.

This is my first time trying to post a link so I hope it works. My first cruise is coming up and I got one of these beaded wrist wallets. (Hopefully, they still have the BOGO sale going on.) I do not plan on wearing it all the time but I will sometimes (dinner). I also plan on bringing a lanyard. Why not since they take no room to pack, then I have it if I want to use it.

That is really cute and would be a great option in the evening.

I can understand the people who state they don't like something around their neck:(, but I use a lanyard and I'll bet no one knows it.

I have the front desk punch a hole in my cruise card I clip it on my lanyard and it goes under my shirt where it stays until I need it. That is all I carry on the lanyard, a very small narrow light weight cloth one.

On shore no one will ever see it so I don't understand how that makes me look like a tourist. I may look like a tourist for other reasons but NOT because of the lanyard.

That might be awkward when it comes to frequently use times. What, no sandals? If I were a guy, I would wear pants/shorts with at least one pocket that buttons or zips and stick it in there. Some guys wear little fanny packs or guy-purses. Cargo pants sound good. Go shopping for cargo pants and a guy purse.

Uh, yes, I'll have sandals. But again, it's Alaska. I'll be wearing dark socks with black Keen closed-toe sandals. No shorts; other passengers will thank me for not showing my 64 yo legs. Why awkward? I'll just bend down or prop my foot on a stool? Only frequent times I can think of are at the bar. ;) Are there others? Pants pockets are fine, but I'm afraid I'll leave it in the pants I'm not wearing the next morning.

Maybe my room key in the other sock.

My room key has always been my one key for ID, purchases, opening the room door, everything. That's why it's important. I'm heading for Alaska in July. I'm packing shorts! I'm also packing a fleece and jacket and pants and hiking shoes. I guess I'm OCD about putting that card in the exact same place on the dresser every evening. That way, even if I put it in my lady cargo pants, purse, or backpack, I know where it is. Are you going to be the guy in sandals, shorts, and lumpy black socks?? You have to get to it, along with picture ID, exit the ship and get back on. I was picturing you skipping along on one leg with the other one in the air while you are digging around in your sock. Someone might think you have a sudden itch.

Won't be me. Again, "NO shorts" for me, so you won't be seeing my legs or (non-)lumpy socks. Oh, and no butt-crack either. LOL

Digging around in my sock? Pretty sure I'll feel the card down there. And I'll put it in the same spot every time.

I use a lanyard now when I am on the ship. It has saved me countless trips to guest services to get a new card after I forgot (Again!) not to put it in the same pocket as my cell phone. Also, I find it faster/easier for getting drinks since otherwise I seem to always be searching around for which pocket I put it in.

the mobile phone and /or a camera are another reason why I use a lanyard when on the ship during the day.

The mobile phone will be pretty useless, without paying the high-priced wifi fee? That's what I think I read.

(I don't have a smart phone)

True but many people buy the internet packages and some ships (modern ones) have the free wifi with the ship's activities on them and such, and of course many carry a mobile for the camera function.

I put my cruise card on a lanyard for when I have clothes with no pockets or a purse. I just wrap the lanyard around my card and put it in my pocket/purse. Three ways in one.

I'm a former teacher but don't object to lanyards. They may not look great, but are useful.

What us a cruise card?

It's your sea pass card that you need to get on and off the ship, buy purchases onboard, get into your stateroom and use for the electric in the stateroom.
