After Final payment and still only a Guaranteed Cabin

We booked gty because it was the only MB available....and no specific MB cabins have been available since we booked or we would have switched. So we still have gty thus this thread....

We booked a guarantee (lowest balcony category) 7 months out and our cabin was assigned about a month before sailing and were upgraded to the highest balcony cabin.

We are sailing on the Golden Princess in July. We wanted to have a specific cabin, but when we booked, we had to be waitlisted for the category. After a couple of months, we got a GTY. After many months and a couple of weeks after making the final payment, DH called Princess and we have the EXACT cabin that we wanted! Can hardly wait.

We've booked many guarantees in the lowest category possible of a type (balcony or obstructed view). Sometimes there have been specific cabins available in that category and sometimes there haven't. The price has been the same when a specific cabin was available. We'll take the gamble with a guarantee if we don't have a reason to book a specific available cabin. We've had good luck getting upgrades. Sometimes it's just a higher category in the same type of cabin. Other times we've had true upgrades to a better type of cabin (Obstructed view to cabin with a balcony was our best.)

 

I understand after reading these boards for years why Princess doesn't go to the trouble of upgrading people ahead of us and lets us skip over them. Too many people complain when they've gone to the trouble to pick a cabin and find out they've been moved. At the last minute, Princess doesn't have time to wait for a response to make sure someone wants to be upgraded before assigning cabins.
