Suttonspeech Posted July 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Hi We arrive at 7.00am in to Civatavecchia. How much time shouldwe allow to get to to the station, buy tickets and board? Train times are Leave 7.47 arrive San Pietro at 8.45 Leave 8.32 arrive San Pietro at 9.21 Vatican tour we want is either 9.30 or 10.30. Do you think we could make the 7.47 train? Thanks
Budget Queen Posted July 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2017 There will be hundreds of people wanting off the ship. plus some docks require you to get out of the port by bus, again, hundreds of people getting on buses. Then another bus to the station, or about a 20 minute walk, then the ticket line at the station???

Thanks It is possible. Specifically, I believe the train you may be referring to is actually Regional train #23655. It departs Civitavecchia at 7:44 and arrives at Roma-S. Pietro at 8:25. We made this train last year and were standing in St. Peter's Sq at 8:35. Our Vatican Museum entrance tix were for 9:30. It was really stressful making that train! The key is not only to being one of the first off the ship, but more importantly figuring out which port shuttle is filling up the fastest b/c it will leave the port area first. We walked extremely fast to the train station from the shuttle drop off area. I would suggest getting a taxi for 10 euro instead. Once at the train station, there is a store with an overhead sign outside which advertises selling train tix to Rome. We bought our BIRG tix there for simplicity purposes and bc of the time issue. The surcharge was 1 euro and the store owner let us use the rear exit of his store so we could get out to the train tracks faster. We made the train with about 2 minutes to spare. Another option for you could be Regional train 23657 which departs Civitavecchia at 7:58 and arrives at Roma S. Pietro at 8:54. Also, it's about a 15 minute walk from St. Peter's Sq to the Vatican Museum entrance. Good luck. atgood

Rare Hlitner Posted July 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Making the 7:42 is iffy...at best. You will need to be among the first off the ship, and get lucky with the shuttle bus and the connection to the paid bus to the train station. In the event that your ship does not actually dock until 7....it could be near 7:30 until you can even get off the ship. So we would suggest planning on the 10:30 tour. If you get lucky and make the early train, you can have some fun just exploring the area...and perhaps enjoying a morning cappuccino before your tour. atgood Posted July 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Isn't the bus to the train station 2 euro each way per person? Plus you have to wait for it to fill up. If time is short, take a taxi to the train station. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
onyx007 Posted August 2, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Personally I would rather book the later tour; depending how long the tour is, when you need to be back and what are your other plans "when in Rome"... if you catch the early bus/train you always can (depending on the waiting lines) go up the cupola (the roof)
