Ocean Dancer Posted August 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2017 ADD TO CART QUICK VIEW FAVORITE COMPARE Home Port Advisory (0 Reviews) | Port: Charleston, SC $0.01/Person Does anyone know what this is? It is under my excursions for an upcoming cruise, there is no info behind it, but costs a penny. Just curious................would they really charge you a penny to be informed about your embarkation port? Anyone know??? Edited to add that the copy/paste did not work. joepeka Posted August 2, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2017 I think most people agree it's just a placeholder for Carnival to put any departure port notices that are necessary.

joepeka Posted August 2, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Thank you for your reply, still wondering about the penny though. Yeah, that is kind of odd but since they list it on the excursions page, I guess they have to show some price. ;)
Ocean Dancer Posted August 2, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Joe, it would make a lot more sense to just say " Watch this place for a brand new, loads of fun, not to be missed shore excursion."

You're right but who ever said "a lot more sense" applied to any cruise line? ;) But they could also use it to notify passengers of any port-related concerns prior to embarkation. lizardhowson Posted August 3, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 3, 2017 Joe, it would make a lot more sense to just say " Watch this place for a brand new, loads of fun, not to be missed shore excursion." But it's not an excursion placeholder nor a tour. Carnival can add as many excursions as they wish to the page without the need for an excursion placeholder. cruisin4Becky Posted August 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2017 Next time you see one read the "reviews" people have written about the one-penny Home port advisories. they are hilarious and definitely meant to be tongue-in-cheek. LOL.Yes,Carnival approves the smart-alec reviews on these
Pops, Esq. Posted August 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2017 Thank you for your reply, still wondering about the penny though. Probably because if it was free, people would try to put it in their shopping cart and check out. Cause, you know, free stuff.

I agree with the person that said it is a placeholder. The penny charge no doubt is because the software used to set it up for you to look at required something >zero. Basically it is a very fast way for Carnival to upload an alert or informative bulletin under fast-developing circumstances that would impact your cruise. No worries, but it might be a welcomed option should circumstances warrant.
