Rare mking8288 Posted August 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2017 Not soon enough ... scheduled completion is mid 2019 https://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/bayonne-navigational-clearance-project.html Raising the bridge and new roadways to allow taller ships to pass under, not an easy engineering challenge. I know, been coming back late night on the NJ Turnpike and closures bring traffic backup that triggered gridlocks with stop and go. You can subscribe to email/SMS alert to stay on top of planned closure. For navigation, Waze has been excellent integrating warnings & go around in real-time, and, spot-on this summer. C 2 C Posted August 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2017 We crossed Sunday July 30 at a cost of $15.00 on the way to Summit.
138east Posted August 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2017 The problem with the Bayonne Bridge closures is that they are not scheduled way in advance and are subject to the weather. You have to check just before you want to use it and revise your plans accordingly.
skycomb Posted August 18, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2017 I work at the container terminal in Bayonne. The project is apparently ahead of schedule. One side of the road deck is done (used for travel in both directions). They usually close in the middle of the night and maybe some weekends when big work has to be done. http://www.panynj.gov/alerts-advisories/advisories-bayonne-bridge.cfm Can't wait until this and the whole 14A interchange project is done for good. Thanks for the update. We get lots of questions about these closures and the only thing we can recommend is checking the website you posted for the most current updates.
