Leela gave me a great idea for a "FUN" thread (thanks Leela!)

What is your most vivid cruise memory?

Mine has to be the first time I saw the wake of the ship.......sailing to Bermuda on Zenith. I could not get over how beautiful and BLUE the ocean was! Here in NJ, the water is not nearly that pretty, sad to say. I was mesmerized by the wake, and spent a lot of time just watching.

I loved it so much we booked an aft suite on Century for our 2nd cruise eight months later. Not for the suite, but to have the aft balcony and enjoy the wake anytime I wanted!

So, what is your most vivid cruise memory?

Great idea............. So here is my entry.

Last night of cruise (12/2) my DH presents me with a diamond bracelet with earrings set, as Angel brings a chocolate bar cake with HAPPY ANNIVERSARY emblazed on it with candles for 26 years. 12 waiters & Matre D singing to us. And the adjoining tables joining in made for an extra special evening and the women all wanted to see the bracelet.

Then we hit a jackpot in the casino to put or original money back in our pocket......

My first cruise was on NCL back in the 1980s. At that time, entertainers were allowed to dine with the passengers on their last week aboard. We were at a table of 12! Our entertainers were a stand up comedian and a gal who had been Miss Kansas or something like that who do a ventriloquist act. What a hoot! We were escorted out of the dining room each night. That got me hooked on cruising. What a wonderful positive experience.

My most vivid memory, is one I relive everytime we cruise...

There is something about stepping onto the ship, taking a deep breath and finally realizing that you're on vacation...

I never fail to experience that feeling of complete relaxation and a sense of calm.

We too love the Aft cabins...all it takes is one time, and you're hooked.

Whoopee, I get to relive my memory in 25 days!

Ruth, there are quite a few vivid memories I have, it's difficult to decide, but sitting on my first balcony in the sunshine on my first ever sea day, with the Sony Walkman playing some very soothing music in my ears and the flying fish darting over a blue Caribbean Sea. That's got to be up there. Aaah, thanks for the reminderbeach.gif

Karyn, you are excused;)

Love this thread!

On the first cruise my husband and I took together we got invited to the Captain's table first formal night out. It was a lovely evening and during dinner the string quartet came to the table asked me if they could play something special. I requested "a little Mozart". Every night for the rest of the cruise they came to our little table for two and played some Mozart for us. They called me the "Mozart Lady"! Now, everytime I hear Mozart I'm back on that cruise ship (Century)!

Waking up the first morning at sea...putting on my iPod, drinking coffee and watching the incredible Pacific Ocean on my veranda... feeling the ship moving and being totally relaxed...knowing I had two more weeks of it to come.....

I think it was feeling the ship move and hearing the toot the Captain gave as we left the dock at Ft Lauderdale. I was standing at the balcony rail talking to my daughter and she could hear the toot!

DD (adult) accompanied me on my last cruise, which was her first, and her eyes got real big when the ship began to move, so it must run in the family.

One of my favorite memories was the sail away in Venice - going through the canal and seeing all of the old city from the top deck. (Celebrity Millenium).

Another one was an extremely windy November evening - pulling out of San Quan and seeing the old fort with the dark sky in the background (Sovereign of the Seas).

One final memory - floating around in Glacier Bay looking up at the amazing wall of ice (Island Princess).

New memories to come soon!

It was our last night out and DH and I went out on deck and walked to the back of the ship. The sunset over the water with the wake of the ship was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I can't wait to see it again in June. This time our children, my 71 year old mom, and my sister will be with us. Cruising is truly a wonderful vacation.

My favorite memory was my very first cruise. It was to Alaska and the beauty, the glaciers was absolutely mindboggling. My DH and I were as green as gourds as we had not found CC yet and knew nothing about cruising and you know it has become one of our best cruises ever. I think sometimes now that I have been on CC for over 2 years I know too much sometimes and it takes away the mystery of the whole cruise. But I am still hooked on CC anyway.:D

Thank you for starting this thread Ruth.

Now I can spend all day reviewing the lovely memories that cruising has given me. If I can chose the most vivid one, I'll post it. If I can't decide, at least I will have spent the day well occupied.

My first cruise. Sitting in my chair on my balconey and watching New Orleans glide by me as the ship started to sail away. I was on the phone with my mom telling her this is the life for me. Totally a mind blowing memory. Thank you for this thread where I can relive that moment second by second!:)

Here's another one:

The first cruise I took my husband on was to Alaska. I remember waking up the first morning on board, it was about 5:30am or so, the sun was just barely coming up. I needed to go to the bathroom, so I got up out of our warm bed. On the way back to bed, I decided to peep out the closed curtains.

Were were sitting smack dab in front of a glacier.

I ran over to the bed and started shaking my husband and squealing "get up get up get up there's a GLACIER OUTSIDE!"

I had no idea how long we'd be there (turns out it was most of the day), and I wanted us to see it before we moved on. We were dressed and on deck in about five minutes flat. Seeing those rivers of ice pouring down into the sea, smelling the cold September air, it was just amazing. And then we went for breakfast and I had eggs benedict. Not a bad way to start the day!

Great idea on this thread Ruth!

My most vivid memory is from my first cruise. My husband and I always planned to take a cruise but never got the chance before he passed away. About a year later I decided to take my daughter and finally go on that cruise. The first night I was up on the top deck looking at the stars and feeling the wind blow my hair back and I could actually feel my husband with me. It was a wonderful feeling and now a cherished memory. I make it a point to go up and look at the stars on every cruise I take now.

As I look back I guess my most memorable vision was seeing the full moon between the World Trade Center and then the Statue of Liberty all lit up at Night. We left late from the Port of New York on our way to Bermuda. It was Sept 2,2001.

My second more pleasant memory was on Summit leaving Seward Alaska, sitting on our balcony sipping Champagne and eating chocholate covered strawberries. We also saw some sea otters frolicing as well.It was fab.

What wonderful memories you all have. I guess my best memory is meeting my waiter (who I later married) on the Doric many years ago.

A more recent fond memory was sitting at the Aft Cafe on Zenith with my family during sailaway from Bayonne this past September. It was a perfect day and we watched the Statue of Liberty go by and as we sailed under the beautiful Verrazzano Bridge my five year old son turned to me (while eating a hot dog) and said, "mom, THIS is the life." Smart kid I raised :) !

Other memories, sailing through the cut in St. George, watching my son play in Zenith's pool, the sheer delight on his face at being back on Zenith for the second time, the gorgeous sunrise as we sailed back into Bayonne, yes.. watching the ship's wake, the utter peacefulness of just being at sea, our wonderful waiters who became our friends, dancing on the pool deck during the Island Party....

I could go on. There are so many wonderful things to remember. Can't wait for the next cruise.

Our first cruise 6/92 for our 25th anniversary we sailed out of West Palm Beach. At sailaway we were on the top deck & as we passed by some very expensive homes, the owners were sitting on their patios & raising glasses of champagne to us. A great start to a new adiction. Many cruises later, I still love the sailaways.

I was going to take a break from posting but this thread is EXACTLY what I miss here since the whiners have taken over...so I will reply as to not miss the enjoyment of wallowing in a cruise memory.

My favorite part of EVERY cruise probably cost the cruise line $0.03 and springs to my mind every time I think about cruising...I get up about 6:30-7am, leave the cabin quietly to let Jill sleep, go to the aft of the ship, get a coffee (I like X coffee thanks) and watch us come into port...Burmuda was the best, but they are all good...thanks for the memories.
