cruisinreunion Posted October 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2017 are there any car rental companies located at the port or that have shuttles at the port? All I can seem to find are rental companies at the airport or shuttles from the airport
loanshark Posted October 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2017 It seems like this question is asked at least once per week.... Alamo / National / Enterprise (select location code MIA or Miami Airport) - uses the Miami airport location Thrifty / Dollar (select location code Miami Cruise Ship - Shuttle) - They also use the Miami airport location Hertz (select Miami - Port of Miami) - uses the 229 Southeast 2nd Street location Budget (location code P2F) - uses the 89 SE 2nd St location Avis (location code Q8M) - uses the 99 SE 2nd St location There are no cars at the actual port.... Use the locations mentioned above if you want to use the car rental shuttle from the point where you pick up / drop off the car to and from the cruise ship. loanshark Posted October 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2017 From experience, I have used all of them except Hertz and Enterprise.... Avis and Budget use the same vans shared by the 2 companies. Thrifty and Dollar share the same shuttles. Enterprise, National, and Alamo share the same shuttles. You may have to show your receipt of car drop off or proof of upcoming reservation to board the shuttle.
Corby114 Posted October 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2017 The downtown Miami car rental locations always seem to be swamped on turnaround days. I always find it easier to take the shuttle back to the Rental Car Center across from Miami International Airport and rent from either Dollar, Thifty, Alamo, National, or Enterprise. Make sure you have your car reservation paperwork handy because some shuttle drivers ask for the information before they allow you to board the shuttle. JohninDC Posted October 13, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 13, 2017 If you get a good deal from an agency at MIA that does not shuttle, a taxi from POM is only $27+tip, or you can Uber for under $20 ;)

Thanks loanshark, I've used Thrifty several times for both pre and post cruise car rentals. However, in attempting to make a new reservation, they want an obscene amount of money for their rental. So I investigated some of the options you listed above and found a cheaper rental. Thanks for posting this information.Merry ChristmasddazGBY
