Tips for future Adventure cruisers from San Juan (disembarkation)

Recommended Posts

If there is anybody cruising in the near future on the Adventure of the Seas from San Juan I would suggest after the cruise to take a taxi and not the RCI free shuttle, if that's still free, or take a later than 2pm flight, or do the walk off in the wee hours of the morning.

We just got off this morning with a 1:15pm flight from SJU. We made it by 4 minutes for our flight.

We were given #28 tags for getting off at 10:15am.

We got off around 10:30am, went to get our luggage and through customs.

Then to the free shuttle where they put your luggage on a separate truck or van. We got to the airport fine but when we arrived there was a mass of humanity outside the terminal from the previous shuttles.

They would only unload one truck at a time so there was at least a half hour to 40 minutes to get your luggae, then you had to go through the agriculture inspection, then check your luggage in at the AA terminal and get our boarding passes.

The woman at the AA counter whisked us to the front of the the line when we told her what time our flight was and after she looked at her watch and asked why we were checking in so late.

We had TSA precheck but the TSA precheck line was closed. We got in line for the regular line and thankfully it moved fast as they had no bowls or carriers to put anything in. They just told you to put everything in your carry on bag.

They didn't make you take shoes off or belts. Went through the detector and my belt didn't even set the detector off. They were basically whisking everybody through as fast as possible.

Had a very good cruise but that was a pretty stressful way to end the cruise.:)

Lines definitely are shorter earlier, but most airlines won't take your bags until 4 hours before flight. And no place to sit if you need to wait. If ag inspection is running long check other terminals - sometimes they are shorter.

It's always been a bit better for us to take a flight around 10:30-11:30am and do walk off and take a taxi...for some reason TSA pre-check has always been closed that early in the morning...but so far we've always been thru agri. check and checked in and at our gate just before 9:00am...This is one port departure I always seem to worry about regardless.
