liptastic Posted December 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2017 I would like to ask if anyone has been on the above excursion by boat? We are booked for May 2019 and this excursion appealed to us. It will be our 4th cruise to Alaska, and we have taken a few trips that involved float planes but I am a bit nervous there and if possible would prefer to get to the bear watching by boat. I thank you in advance for any help or information. Also would May be a suitable time for bear watching? Thanks, and good wishes to all for the festive season, Jean. mapleleaves Posted December 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2017 (edited) If you don't get many responses there are resources on line to check out. Your port time might be a determining factor as to whether you can go by boat or float plane. Boat trips generally require much more time than plane travel. As to whether or not May is a good time, email the vendors. Don't let them know you're already booked for May. Ask them what bear activity you see at each point during the season from May thru Sept and the success of each month Ask when peak iviewing occurs. Since bear tours are so expensive you'll want to go during peak. There is info about the area on the BC Tourism web site: https://www.hellobc.com/prince-rupert/things-to-do/parks-wildlife/bear-watching.aspx As well as the Lodge: http://www.khutzlodge.com/grizzly-bear-sanctuary.html The town web site lists several vendors: http://www.prince-rupert-tourism.com/prince_rupert_whale_and_bear_watching/prince_rupert_wildlife_tour.php p.s. you might want to post on the British Columbia forum of tripadvisor. Perhaps a BC resident can offer some insight. Edited December 24, 2017 by mapleleaves p.s.

I will follow up on your advice about enquiries re best time for bear viewing, also may need to be brave and go for the float plane trip of our port time is short. I have a feeling we have 8 hours in port but need to check on our docs. Thanks again, Jean.
roothy123 Posted December 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2017 mapleleaves, thank you for asking this question. We're going to be in Prince Rupert in May 2018 and I'm also interested in the bear watching, although I haven't had time to look into it. If you find out anything that might be helpful to me, could you post again, and I can do the same for you? liptastic, thanks for the wonderful information.
