Tips, Tricks & Advice for First Cruise on Coral Princess?

I’m on the Coral right now going through the Panama Canal. Did the lantour from Whittier to Vancouver several years ago on this ship. Miss the Crown Grill but had dinner in Bayou last night. Hubs had the gator ribs appetizer, said they were good but I didn’t like the texture. Way too much food, I did have a baked potato and we each had a lobster tail. Next time we would split the lobster tail and forget the side dishes and biscuits. I had the Carpetbaggers Trinity steak, medium rare; it was over cooked on one end (not bad enough to send back) and perfect on the other end. I’m on the Baja deck, doing some laundry; there are chaise lounges on the aft deck, perfect for waiting for your laundry to finish. If you have any questions, let me know.

Is it possible to get steaks without seasoning in the Bayou Cafe?

we love the Crown Grill, no CG on Coral, looking at menu at Bayou... not that appealing, do have a free dinner, so am wondering if we can order steak without spices, my dh can't eat spicy foods.

Yeah, my parents went to CG on their last Princess Cruise and had nothing but good things to say about it. We were a little disappointed to hear that it doesn’t exist on the Coral, but I’m glad to hear they use the same CG meat for steaks at the Bayou

Good to know, thank you! (Do you know if hypothetically I literally eat half of a steak, could I ask to have the remainder of my meal sent to my room or no?)

Yes, you can order the filet or other steak offerings without the Cajun or spicy seasoning. And I agree about the nice music they often have playing during the evening. In fact we often go have a glass of wine before eating dinner elsewhere instead of Crooners or Wheelhouse if they have music playing. Enjoy the Bayou Cafe!

Hi,just a note to anyone booking the Coral to not make the same mistake as us.Having sailed only grand class ships we booked a high deck aft on the Coral to nip up to HC every morning to get a cup of tea, only to realise too late that it's at the other end of the ship, lol.

Anyone know about B215. Is there lots of movements at the front of the ship.

I was in B223 until this past Sunday. I didn't realize how far forward I was until I was on the ship. This was our second time on the Coral and she's a great ship. We hit some really rough water on our second day. Hubby almost fell out of bed that night. The higher up you are, the rougher it is on that deck. I also didn't realize that even though we had cabins above and below us, I was woken up at 4:00 a.m. one morning by chairs being slammed on the Lido deck, guess they were mopping the decks, and another morning heard vacuuming about 1:00 a.m. Also, the laundry facilities are a loooooonnnnnggg way away!

Someone asked about the card room - there is one on Deck 8.

Also, the aft deck on Baja was never crowded - there was at most 4 people, and 2 of them were us.

Be sure to try the pizza offered in Sabatinis for lunch on some sea days. No charge and cooked in a brick oven. Very good plus nice salads (I think). with a nice view if you can get a window seat. Loved the Coral for Alaska and looking forward to next month 10 day PC

Also, I read somewhere that on some ships, sauna/steam room/showers are available for free to use in the Lotus Spa (presumably the amenities used by those going to the gym). Is that true on the Coral? Some also noted that some ships allow locker rental by handing over your room key. Does that apply to the Coral too?

1). I am a big guy who likes large portions. I found them to be adequate on the Coral.

2.). If you enjoy a nice view and like peace and quiet, go to the stern of deck ten. There are a dozen or so lounge chairs and we found the deck to be empty or almost empty most of the time.

Is smoking allowed in the casino and if so, do you smell smoke in the IC? Thanks.

Yes, smoking is allowed in the casino and some smokers use it as a smoking area even if they are not playing. Unfortunately we often smelled the smoke while eating in the International Cafe and it was a big turn-off.
