Kacers Posted April 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2018 We’re cruising for the first time on Ruby Princess leaving Saturday! We’re so excited but as we’re traveling with our 2 almost 3 year old daughter...we haven’t been able to plan any shore excursions in advance. Our plan was just to wing it with various vendors we assume will be on the docks ready to pounce. The one thing we did do, is arrange to rent a car for the day while in Loreto. It’s around $30 for the day including Mexican insurance which is what we estimated two taxis would run us. This way we have transportation to drive around and see everything. Has anyone else done this? We’re considering doing the same while in PV.
Ine Posted April 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2018 If you know your way in Vallarta or have been there before it might be o.k. to rent a car. Traffic is busy with sometimes crazy rules. Like using the lateral road before you can make a left turn as this isnot always possible from the major road. Parking in town is a major problem. In case you want to drive outside Vallarta to e.g. San Sebastian or Sayulita (also parking problems there) be aware of many topes (speedbumps) that arenot always visible. Check if the company delivers to the cruise terminal, most donot. Then you need to go to the airport to pickup and return the car. A few years ago we were in Loreto and just walked around, nice little town.
SadieN Posted April 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2018 That road in PV is amazing, in the scariest sense. Our taxi was never more than 6 inches behind the car in front of us, including lane changes. Maybe not that close, but I could never see the brake lights! That double road is hard enough to cross, let alone to drive on.
VennDiagram Posted April 14, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Has anyone else done this? We’re considering doing the same while in PV. I would not try driving in PV. As SadieN said the traffic and the roads are scary.
Kacers Posted April 14, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Thanks for the advice! Sounds like we’ll be going with our original plan of Loreto, and leave the PV driving to the taxis
