When walking down from Gibralfaro to Alcazaba, is it necessary to walk all the way down to Calle Alcazabilla to enter, or is there a back entrance?

To save the walk take bus 35 from the castle to the Paseo Parque (long row of bus stops on the main road overlooking the park and port). The bus stops close to the Town Hall and you can access the Alcazaba via a tunnel and lift at the rear of the Town Hall.

Thank you and thanks for the link!

I had already planned to take the bus up to the castle but would like to walk down. It seems you have to walk “round” Alcazaba to enter and then walk back up again inside. It may be too much walking for my husband, in addition to exploring the locations, and we may have to consider taking the bus up and down.

It is a steep and winding walk back down the hill so, if your husband has any mobility issues, the bus or taxi would be my recommendation.

We didn’t find the walk difficult but that would change if there’s rain or moisture on the stone path. I also wouldn’t recommend it for someone who has mobility issues.

Thanks for your help and advice. I have done a “virtual” google maps walk for most of the route so I think I am prepared for what to expect. We will decide on the conditions and how he feels on the day. Time may be our biggest factor as we do not arrive until early afternoon.

I was really just asking if there was more than one entrance to Alcazaba since I thought I had read of people walking up, exiting at the top of the palace and wondered if you could enter there. If we take the lift up from behind the town hall do we pay for entrance to the palace with the lift charge?

Campolady, pardon my ignorance but do you need to buy tickets to enter Alcazaba. If yes, is it possible to buy them online?

Our ship tour will bring us to Alcazaba but is not going to take us inside. I plan to drop the tour at this point.

Any information is greatly appreciated. I'm following your threads religiously. It's very interesting to read them even if I'm not going to the place. :)
