jane02 Posted January 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We will be staying a couple of nights at Fort Lauderdale prior to our cruise in April 07. What is the best hotel? Thanks Jane;)
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We've stayed at the Hyatt Pier 66 several times and the Lago Mar Resort. I prefer Lago Mar as it's in a nicer location right off the beach. You can even see cruise ships entering/departing Fort Lauderdale. Again, the Hyatt is nice, but I really enjoyed Lago Mar. A fairly new hotel in the area is the The Atlantic Hotel. Just go to http://www.starwood.com and enter Fort Lauderdale as the destination and this is one of the Hotels you will see. Rare mahdnc Posted January 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We are looking at staying at the Marriott Harbor Beach which is right near the pier and airport. We have heard that it a very nice hotel although we have not had any previous experience with it.
LEESRE Posted January 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2006 A very nice hotel is the Pelican Beach Resort, a little out of the way but right on the beach. The transport is very good also, a bus stops right outside to take you to things like Sawgrass Mills and Las Olas. The resort has a very good pool and a lazy river also a private sector of beach with sunbeds etc.
TrentS Posted January 8, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2006 The above mentioned hotels are all nice, but the NICEST/BEST hotel in Fort Lauderdale at the moment is THE ATLANTIC... http://www.starwoodhotels.com/luxury/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1475 Anf for future reference... The St. Regis will be opening in September, it will be even nicer... http://www.starwoodhotels.com/stregis/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1512
cruzobsessed Posted January 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2006 within the last 2 years i've been to both the marriott harbor beach and pelican beach. what's funny is...we thought that the marriott was the nicest hotel we've ever been to UNTIL we stayed at pelican beach. i think it depends on what time of the year you go. we were at the marriott in a december and even though the hotel was full, you never got that feeling. plenty of room on the beach and around the pool. we were at pelican beach last july (off season) and the beach was empty but there were plenty of "chair hogs" around the pool and this was in july. we loved pelican beach because it was new, we had a suite and it was gorgeous. plus my kids loved the lazy river. because i believe that TRENTS is the resident expert, i looked up both of the new luxury hotels he was recommneding and while THEY ARE GORGEOUS.......yikes they are expensive. granted i haven't checked them against the other 2 for most current prices but i think they are $$$$. TrentS Posted January 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Yes, those ARE quite pricey, but if you want the best/NICEST in town you have to PAY. ;) Prices (and occupancy) in general though are up CONSIDERABLY this winter/spring. Many people are suffering from "sticker shock" over what they are now compared to what they paid in the past couple of years. I do agree with you on Pelican Beach Resort's new tower, it's GORGEOUS and would be a perfectly wonderful less expensive alternative... http://www.pelicanbeach.com/ As would Harbor Beach Marriott... http://www.marriottharborbeach.com/ Or Lago Mar... http://www.lagomar.com/ None of those others are in the same league as The Atlantic or St. Regis though. jane02 Posted January 8, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Thanks for that info. We try to have one great holiday a year and don't compromise on anything - so a nice hotel pre cruise is a must for us, regardless of the cost. This info had given me something to work with -thank you again. Jane;)
