Metal Detectors Half Moon?

Hello,

We are taking our grandsons (and their parents) on their first cruise which include Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Nassau.

We have a small pirate treasure chest we want to bury and have them find with a pirate map they will receive prior to our trip. The chest will have authentic old coins from Roman to 1700's in it, and would set off a metal detector. It would be easier for them to locate if they bring their metal detector but it's not absolutely necessary. Not sure we'd even have room in suitcase (it does come apart).

We are thinking we will be one of first off the ship and bury it farther down beach from our Cabana, or along the lagoon side of the tender jetty in a more isolated sandy area (within eye site).

Does anyone know if Metal detectors are allowed on Half Moon Cay or Grand Turk? It might be fun for them.

Thank you!

No they don't have metal detectors....folks will be bringing all sorts of metallic  objects ashore!

Read the question. The OP wants to do a treasure hunt with metal detectors. Not a metal detector like at the airport for bags screening, but one a civilian operates to find hidden/lost metal, like coins, or treasure.

I would reach out to guest services with the cruise line. On their FAQ page Carnival lists that Metal detectors are an exemption with use in Ports of Call only. However that doesn't necessarily apply to Half Moon Cay...

Carnival Help/FAQ, Scroll to "what items am i not allowed to bring?" and down to"Exemptions - Items for Port Use Only"
