Am going on a trans Atlantic on the Reflection in April and have 7 days at sea. I have lots of movies that I can put on USB stick or on a Samsung tab. Anyone got any ideas how I can hook up to our stateroom tv to play these. Can I plug a stick or hook up tab to tv or can I do  a Chromecast type thing. Any ideas.

The USB Stick will not work.    You probably would have no problem using a Tablet or PC with a HDMI    You would need to have the HDMI unlocked if locked and would need a Universal or Samsung Remote to change sources to HDMI.

I've not tried Chromecast but suspect it would be similar to Roku or AppleTV.    It is possible but difficult and your Chromecast and Transmission device have to be on the same network at the same time to communicate.   You could search on YouTube on how you can do this but takes a bit of network technical knowledge and the creation of an internal network.

I understand that on Edge - and possibly the other ships after Revolution the TV's have the ability to accept direct broadcast.

Hooking up your own HDMI source to your stateroom TV varies from ship to ship even within the same class. Solstice is different from Eclipse which was different than Reflection from my experience.  Fortunately for you, Reflection is the easiest of the three.

We just got off of Reflection yesterday and found that we could easily connect our laptop to our TV without any assistance. No unlocking or special remote needed.

Here is a photo of our laptop feeding its video to the stateroom television:

The ship's system is connected to the television via an ethernet cable (lower cable in the photo below) and an HDMI cable which is connected to the back of the TV in the photo using an input labeled "HDMI IN 3 (ARC)":

Simply disconnect the ship's HDMI cable and connect your video source to "HDMI IN 3"

That's it.  The TV is already using HDMI 3 as its video source.  I didn't think to try to see if I could switch to a different video input source by using the television menu buttons.  If not, that's when the special remote comes in handy to allow you to switch inputs or over-ride the security that may be in place which disables the other inputs.  The photo below shows the laptop and TV together with an HDMI cable connecting them.  The disconnected cable that is hanging is the ship's HDMI cable:

Here is some more information about the television (e.g. model number which is HG32ND477GF) in case you are interested:

When we were aboard Infinity, we found the older TVs on that ship to be the most difficult to connect, in this case, a PlayStation to (via HDMI).  We called Guest Relations and they sent up an IT specialist to our cabin to assist us.

Thanks , that is really helpful and I really appreciate the pictures and time it took you. Not overly tech savvy so this is much appreciated. By any chance do you know if you can buy a HDMI cable that would hook a Samsung tab A to the tv so I do not have to bring the laptop.

Silhouette also used HDMI for input.  Sometimes the other HDMI ports are active, sometimes not.  We always bring a small HDMI switch (with extra cables) so we can hook up our stuff AND the ships channels and switch back and forth without unplugging.

So the cables most likely exist that have the proper physical connection on one end for your Samsung and an HDMI connector on the other end for the TV.  However your Samsung Tab A has to be MHL compliant for this method of connection to work.  In other words, just because there is a cable that allows you to plug your tablet with one end and plug the other end to the TV, it doesn't mean that you will automatically get the result that you want.  And I am not familiar with Samsung tablets.  So I don't know.  Your best bet is to bring your Samsung Tab a into a Best Buy--which usually has a Samsung area that sells phones and tablets to find out.

Our Eclipse stateroom had its ship feed through a multi-pin "PC In" connection.  I think it was DVI.  We were able to connect our video source to one of the HDMI inputs and could use the television buttons to select the video source that we wanted.
