We will be on a cruise from SAn Juan  and we were wondering if you go through customs immediately after the cruise or at the airport once you reach the mainland  USA after leaving PR?

There is no immigration or customs between Puerto Rico and mainland US. It's like you were flying from Delaware or Oregon...part of the US.

Every passenger that debarks a ship (American citizen or not) in Puerto Rico and that has visited an international port (for Customs definition even St. Thomas is international!) has to pass through Customs as soon as they get off the ship and before leaving the terminal. The Customs process at the airport works in a different way.
