4774Papa Posted February 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2019 We are going to Chile for a cruise out of San Antonio that ends in San Diego. We have been to Chile twice, but both times we arrived by ship. This time we arrive by air. Apparently, we will owe a reciprocity fee (it was reinstated since the USA now charges Chileans such a fee). One poster indicated you had to pay this fee on arrival in cash, also paying in US cash with new unmarked, undamaged bills. Can anyone confirm they had to pay this fee in the past year or so, and if so in US cash (no credit card!?)
FredZiffle Posted February 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2019 We went in 2017 and paid no fee. I can find nothing in a search that indicates that a fee has been reinstated.,
capriccio Posted February 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2019 The Chilean International Travel Information page on the U.S. State Department website does not mention it: Your passport must be in good condition and valid for the period of your stay. You do not need a visa for a tourist or business stay of 90 days or less (tourist passports only). (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Chile.html) The Chilean Consulate in Washington, DC notes (my bolding): U.S. citizens traveling to Chile for recreation, on business or to attend conferences do not need a visa to enter Chile and can stay for up to 90 days. There is NO fee to be paid after the Visa Waiver Agreement between Chile and the United States.
