How many formal nights?

The standard for a 7-day crossing on QM2 is to have three "gala evenings" (the new name for "formal") and four "smart attire" evenings (the new name for "informal").

The pattern lately has been for the gala evenings to be the 2nd, 4th, and 6th evenings of the crossing. For an eastbound crossing, the pattern has been to have the "Royal Cunard Ball" as the theme on the 2nd evening and the "Roaring Twenties Ball" as the theme on the 6th evening.

The breakdown of the dress code schedule and themed evenings for your specific crossing will be listed in your voyage personaliser within the "Full Itinerary View" section, probably somewhere around three to four months prior to your departure date.

And subject to thoughts from others, I wouldn’t worry too much about the specific themes unless you really want to get involved. I found the Victoriania Ball on QV in 2017 ranged from all out costumes to just normal black tie and gala night attire.
