Familyforever Posted March 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2019 I just saw a notice of a lot of crimes in the Bahamas. Thoughts?
highflyingrealtor Posted March 4, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2019 Yep, State dept issued travel warnings especially to Nassau and Freeport. We're scheduled to visit both of those ports on a cruise coming up in early April. Anyone visit those two ports recently? As the OP mentioned, anyone have some current thoughts and or recent experience?
jean-lynd Posted March 4, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2019 We were in Nassau last week. Walked around on our own for 2 hours. Were not bothered by anyone once we got away from the port. We walked to the Bahamian Rum Cake Factory and the Queen's Staircase and then back to rhe ship. There were some very run down areas but we felt safe. We did walk past a police station and we did see some officers on the streets. I hope this helps!

Rare CruisinCrow Posted March 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) That same notice has been coming out every year for the past few years. We were in Nassau three times last year and did not experience any problems. Trip 1 - took the bus to Baha Mar to see the casino, had lunch at the Fish Fry and then walked back to the ship. Trip 2 - went to Blue Lagoon for the day. Trip 3- took the Tru Bahamian food and walking tour, then afterwards walked to Graycliff Hotel to buy chocolates. Just use common sense like you would anywhere else you go. And don't rent jet skis. Edited March 6, 2019 by CruisinCrow
