eerbeek Posted April 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Wouldn't you WANT your kids clearly identified in a crisis while in foreign lands or at sea? Seems like a 'no brainer' to ensure legal identification for EVERYONE in a party, minors and adults alike. To not want this is to be negligent and irresponsible. Get them state issued ID's for like $10 per kid. Could be invaluable in the long run! Mar Posted April 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2004 We had to have a supervisor permit our preteens to board a few years back. Very tense boarding! We were told raised seal birth certs BUT they wanted PHOTO ID and couldn't believe their schools didn't require them. NOPE! We asked for a supervisor, I pointed out the brochure listed raised seal birth certs and it was not a problem. Once home, I looked into state issued photo ID and was told they HAD to be 16-not much sense but????? We gave up and got passports.
glrounds Posted April 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Many states (Iowa for example) no longer use "raised seal" birth certificates. Just got another birth certificate from my home state of Iowa (birthplace) and NO RAISED SEAL. Never had a problem on last 3 cruises. Gary
eerbeek Posted April 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2004 I just got a duplicate cert from our state because my original was STAMPED in the Dominican Republic and I almost went off on the customs guy for doing so. I'm kind of sentimental...want to preserve the original. ANYway, the duplicate has no raised seal, but it has watermarks, special inks that disappear when touched, etc., and is very 'official' looking. I'm taking both and if the duplicate isn't acceptable, I'll pull out the original. After this cruise, I'm getting a passport to avoid all the crap with the certs. imatarb Posted April 11, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Can anyone tell me how to go about getting a state ID for my son (he's 5)...or should I just look into a passport? He won't be joining us on our Victory cruise next month, but I have a feeling he'll be cruising w/ us in the future. ginag Posted April 11, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Clearly a personal choice as far as the passport vs an ID. For our DD (13) we went ahead and got a photo id, and I'm glad because even though we didn't have to have it, she is 6' and looks much older than 13. Many times she was asked for her ID. We went to our local DMV and the cost was $20.00. Also just for piece of mind! ~gina~ 11/20 Ecstasy cruise
Knights on the Beach Posted April 11, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 11, 2004 While children under 16 do not need a picture ID to cruise on Carnival, it's always a good idea to have one. Another option for a picture ID for a child is the "Ident-A-Kid" cards. I used to get one of these cards every couple of years through my youngest son's school until we got him a passport. cruisn4evr Posted April 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Our kids are middle school and high school age. They have school photo ids (which they need in school to use the computers, library, among other things) Most post elementary schools do this now. bjkeen Posted April 12, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2004 When my family went to board the Pride we were asked for the children's photo I.D. in addition to passports. My ds took his license and my dd had a photo I.D. from the drivers license office (small fee).
