traveler2100 Posted March 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2019 We are on the Princess British Isles in May. Does the ship typically cruise within viewing distance of Land? Is does travel clockwise or counter clockwise?
john watson Posted March 24, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2019 May 2019 British Isles cruises sail clockwise, starting at Southampton, Crown Princess, 1st, 13th or 25th. It is possible to start at other ports en-route, Dublin or Le Havre. Some of the dates have variations in port call, namely adding Liverpool or Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. Guernsey and Edinburgh (South Queensferry) are tender ports. Viewing of land might be possible in/out of some ports when you get near but generally they sail a way off shore. jocap Posted March 24, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2019 Coming out of Belfast, the ship goes quite close to the lowlands of Scotland- I sat out on the balcony at 2am to see the volcanic pile of Ailsa Craig, and hear the 1,000s of gannets shouting at us. You sail close to the Isle of Arran before you sail up the Forth of Clyde to Greenock, and returning you pass close to that island. If you're on a big ship, you'll head further out to sea, but next day will probably see the Outer and Inner Hebrides islands when you pass between them, and also the north west tip of Scotland. It's a long sail in/out of the Firth of Forth, and worth watching for the 100,000 gannets diving like arrows from the Bass Rock; also the Royal Yacht at Leith, before you reach the Forth bridges.
