We are planning on traveling from Barcelona to Madrid following our cruise.  We will be spending one night in Barcelona and traveling to Madrid the following day.  Debating between the train or flying.  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks.

High speed AVE train is a better and faster option for getting from central Barcelona to central Madrid. Lots of options (up to 2 per hour).  Plain ticket may be cheaper but considering getting to and from airports and luggage fees that may not be the case.

Take the Ave train it is fast and professionally organised.    You may want to spend the night near to Sants Station.  There is a hotel in the same building which is mega  convenient.  I stayed there once when it was on offer.  Tickets are usually available between 6 and 12 weeks ahead of the journey.    The cheaper tickets do go first.  First class is not necessary for such a short journey
