Are Specialty Restaurants Open on Embarkation Day?

We're sailing on the September 1st voyage to Quebec City with a friend of ours who has never sailed Cunard before.  We don't want her to miss the ship sailing under the Verrazano Bridge; however, we have a 6pm seating in the MDR.  Other than King's Court, will there be any other dining venues available for dinner?  Will a Specialty restaurant be open?  Thanks!

Yes, both the Steakhouse at the Verandah and the Kings Court Alternative Dining specialty restaurants on QM2 should be open for dinner on embarkation day. For the recently completed crossings that I was on, the hours for the Steakhouse at the Verandah were 6:30-9:00pm (with a $39 cover charge). The hours for the Kings Court Alternative Dining venue were 7:00-9:00pm (with a discounted $14.50 cover charge on embarkation day compared to the usual $19.50 cover charge on other days).

If the ship leaves on time at 5 PM (it happens from time to time, particularly when the weather allows incoming flights to cooperate), it will pass under the bridge by about 5:45.

There is also a little leeway on the seating time, particularly on embarkation day. You could still arrive in Britannia around 6:15 and have your orders in by 6:30 and technically not be "late, " although it's not the best way to meet your tablemates. If you're at a table for two the waiters will adjust - I've seen habitually late couples arrive at a 2-top around 6:45 for nights on end (I'm not recommending it, just noticing that the waiters are capable).
