Tom Baker Posted May 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2019 I understand that bus journeys in Akureyri in Iceland are free for everyone. Has anyone tried using the bus service? Does anyone have any experience or advice on usage or places to see?
Rare Turtles06 Posted May 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2019 Akureyri itself, imho, is not that interesting a place, but it's a great jumping off point for seeing some spectacular natural sites (as well as the Myvtan Nature Baths). Excellent full-day excursions are available. See my comments (and those of others) in this thread, for example:
Rare dronnygirl Posted May 21, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2019 From Akureyri there are some fabulous and very different places to see. We did a tour with FAB tours and this was 8 hours and on the go all day as there is so much to see. There is no way you would see these places by public transport. FredZiffle Posted May 21, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2019 If you're looking for a cheaper alternative than taking a tour, you might consider renting a car. The roads are fabulous and easy to navigate with a map or GPS. I think tour guides are overrated for places like this where they are mostly just providing transport to the various sites.
