Parrothead234 Posted June 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2019 I'm looking at the 9-day Denali in May 2020, which includes a night in Fairbanks. I see there is a Northern Lights tour, but can you really see the Northern Lights in May? I would love to see them, but I thought they were only visible in the winter. Has anyone done this excursion? TIA.
Rare Essiesmom Posted June 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2019 You need darkness to see the lights, and there are a lot of hours of daylight in May... Ask on the Alaska board here, under Ports of Call. EM
Taters Posted June 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2019 I've lived in Fairbanks since 1984 and cannot recall seeing northern lights at that time of year as there is daylight almost around the clock. Of course, the closer to June you get, the more hours of daylight there are. I would plan on doing something else, for sure.
