Rare MMDown Under Posted August 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2019 I am a senior, who will be in Oban, Scotland in September, after a cruise. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the choice of what to do in Oban. Which islands should I visit by ferry? Where else should I consider by public transport? How long should I allow for this beautiful part of Scotland? Plan to visit Glasgow and Edinburgh for a few days each en route to London.
Thejuggler Posted August 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2019 Mull is only 45 minutes by ferry and there will be a bus at the port to get you to Tobermory. You can get to smaller islands, Coll and Tiree, but not much there. calmac.co.uk for ferry info. westcoasttours.co.uk do a three islands tour. Mull, Iona and Staffa. Well worth the very long day trip. Train to Glasgow for an amazing trip.

Take the train Oban to Glasgow first (3 1/2 hrs scenic journey), then Glasgow-Edinburgh (1 hr) then Edinburgh-London (5 1/2 hrs) Check if there is a fare plan that lets you break the Oban-London journey into segments and saves on overall fare. SrCruizer Posted August 10, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2019 We took the West Coast Tours 2 Island tour, Iona and Mull, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We considered the longer tour which included Staffa but decided that 8 hours might be enough for us “seniors” and price was also a consideration.
