Getting a cab in Naples.  Easy as pie.

 

If you want to hire a cab for the entire day to take you down the coast or whatever, they will accost you as you walk through the first gate.

 

If you just want a ride into town, walk past the guys who want to hire our for the day.  Follow the orange line from the front door the Stazione Marittima, to the Picnic Bar. The purple T stands for Taxi and they will be lined up right there. Walk to the front of the line and the cabbies will tell you which cab to get into. Writing down your destination helps.

 

If you want to walk out into the local area, follow the blue line. It is an uphill climb.

Cabs and cars have access. Look at taking the OYO bus to Florence and then hiring a guide with a car who can drive you from site to site. Or find out about hiring a pedicab ( I think I saw them on the streets).

 

Lucca is a lot of walking. The bus drops you at the gate to the walked city and then you walk the rest of the time. We did the OYO. The tour escort walked us from the bus to the place where we would meet at the end of the tour. Cute town, especially when it isn't raining -- but again old city with cobblestone streets.

 

The tours to Pisa basically take you to see the tower. They drop you several blocks away.

The port of Livorno is not walkable at all.  You'll need to take a taxi or whatever other mode of transportation might be available to get out of the port.  There are rental cars available if you're so inclined.

 

Livorno is a good port to do a ship's or private tour...

You can go online and order tickets for both locations with specific admitting times, but do it way in advance as they sell our quickly in the summer tourist season. Almost anywhere in Italy you will be doing a lot walking and public restrooms are not easy to find, keep that in mind for your older parents.

The descriptions of the tours are available on the Viking website. On the description of your cruise, on the itinerary page, scroll down to the day-by-day section. On Florence/Pisa click where it says "learn more". This will take you to the description of the various tours. For each tour shown, click on the box to see the description. If you are there for two days, read both days as the tours may be different on each day.
