Quick Magic Overview 8/31 - 9/8

Thank you for posting a review of the Magic.   We sailed on her in May and agree about the staff, they were so nice, always said hello and asked if we needed anything, and, that included wait staff, cooks, servers, cleaning crew, room stewards, etc.  I always ate in the Lido buffet early in the morning and there was never a crew member that walked past my table that didn't come over and say hello and ask if they could get me anything.  I love the omelette station and order 4 eggs over easy every day and they were perfect.  The best item I had for lunch from the deli was a hot dog with sauerkraut or chili.  

 

We went to the Red Frog Pub on embarkation to take advantage of the 1/2 priced fish bowl drinks and there was only one bartender there and a huge crowd of people.  It took forever to get our fish bowls and they were very fruity and sweet, yuck.

 

Please try the layer cakes available in the Lido buffet at lunch only.  What an improvement over those dry brownies and cookies and cake pops.  They had 5 or 6 different layer cakes every day which were beautifully decorated, some with mirror glazes, and included cakes such as carrot with delicious cream cheese frosting, chocolate with marshmallow frosting, raspberry champagne, and hummingbird cake (my mouth is watering just thinking about this cake, OMG).  

 

I agree with you about the Sea Monkeys, they were there to give a performance, their music never enticed anyone to get up and dance.   The violin trio in the lobby got old after a couple of nights.  The best entertainer on the ship was Simon London, he was everywhere talking to people.  Definitely go to any venue where he is, especially the show he does in the atrium, lovely jubbly.

 

There is so much sitting area on the open decks away from the main pool.  There is a lovely area aft on deck 11 that always has plenty of chairs available on port or starboard side and some chairs in the back with umbrellas.

 

I like to gamble but the only time I went in the casino was early in the morning when there were only a couple of people there.  It still reeked of smoke but at least you didn't have people blowing smoke right into your face.  I'll be so happy when Carnival bans smoking in the casino, I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Guess we got lucky a few months ago, as Alchemy was generally easy to get a seat and if full, on the far side you could always walk up and get a drink. 

 

I'd say a lot of your comments were accurate. The ship felt tired, rusty, smokey, and crowded. Along with mediocre MDR food but pretty outstanding service.  Overall it was an OK cruise for us, but we are hesitant to continue with Carnival.

Did you happen to try the Seafood Shack? It's new since the last time I was on the Magic and am wondering if it's worth a try. Great Review!
