Casino Comps

Hoping you can assist.  We are going on a very short 4 night cruise next month.  My husband enjoys his casino time.  I have read that they will "comp" drinks once you get to a certain point accumulation.  However, we already have the drink package.  Do they every substitute for something else?

They could buy your husband or you a drink.  That would be free to you and would not count against your 15 drinks/day.  They may also send a gift to your room: cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, a voucher for the Steakhouse (or 2 Steakhouse selections in the MDR), or a voucher for a bottle of wine.  It would completely depend on the host.

This happened to us in February and every night we'd have cookies and candies left in our room and we did get a steak dinner in place of the drinks.  We're going again in November, they offered us $450 off the room price, gave us $500 cruise cash, $250 casino cash, plus free drinks in the casino.  I won quite a bit on that trip, so I guess they want us back so they can get their money back.  lol

Unless he has a history with the casino or hits a few thousand points during the cruise, ask but expect nothing for a first time cruiser who just bought the drink package.  Substitution is at the discretion of the casino host as mentioned but those offers are for past cruisers with a significant win/loss record.

During my last cruise they send us cookies to our room, gave us 3 vouchers for steak/lobster selections in the MDR, and gave me a free manicure/pedicure with shellac.  They were very nice to me.  🙂

By the way, it never hurts to ask for something.  I didn't, but I suspect if I had, they would have tried to oblige.

I really appreciate it.  We are really not the type to normally ask but maybe (depending on how much he plays) this time we will.  For land based casinos we have players cards and those parameters are pretty cut and dry.  Drinks are always free and comps come in the form of free rooms, dinners, playing dollars, shows, etc... Just interesting to see the difference.

On one of our first cruises we had already purchased the Cheers package so the earning of drinks on us was of no real value to us.   After I had earned over 1500 points in the casino a I asked the casino host if I was eligible for any comps.  She made a reservation for my husband and I in the steak house and included a bottle of wine.  Also on the next to the last day of the cruise she had arranged for me to have a massage in the spa that was comped.   I think it is really up to the discretion of the casino host as I have been on other cruises where we have had the same amount of play in the casino but they were not as generous.

You will need to wait unit he hits 1000 points but they usually don't loosen the comps until you are hitting 8000 plus on a 7 days.  I don't know what level triggers extras on shorter cruises

How much is considered enough gambled money to receive comps? Or does it even matter and it just depends on the host?

It isn't necessary the money unless you had a hand pay jackpot.  It is the points accumulated.  It also depends on the other gamblers that cruise.  Offers go to the top 10% or so of gamblers based on points.  On some cruises hosts are only handing out comps beyond a DOU to people past 10,000 points and sometimes there aren't any gamblers on board so they go lower.  Then again, if you find yourself on a Premier, you would have to hit upwards of 20,000  to get their attention.
