Do I have to sign up for the Medallion?

You do not need to order the Medallion but you do have to fill out all the Check IN info on Princess web-site.

No need.  We didn't and got on the ship fast.  There was a line at medallion check in, but none at regular check in, haha.  Medallion was ready and we were on the ship within 10 minutes of entering building.

Actually, if you show up at the dock with correct ID and payment information you will be able to board.  Admittedly the process will be slow, but it will happen.

It definitely is best, as mentioned, to fill out the Checkin info on the Princess site.
