Hammergirl Posted October 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2019 We are looking at August 2021 and our main interest is animal interaction (dog sledding and playing with the dogs....that type of thing). Which ports should we make sure we stop at for these types of experiences?
disneyochem Posted October 24, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2019 I think you will find that there are a number of places that have the interaction with the dogs. We did a dog sled excursion in Skagway--my girls still talk about the puppies! I enjoyed it as well. If you are on a Princess cruise to Alaska, puppies are brought on the ship! You may have to wait in line a bit, but you will get to cuddle with the puppies!
Glaciers Posted October 24, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2019 This may not be what you're looking for but the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center has a program that looks interesting. https://www.alaskawildlife.org/tours-programs/

Rare Coral Posted October 26, 2019 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2019 Seward has Iditaride: https://ididaride.com You can't just get off the ship in Seward and take the train or bus back. You need to spend more time in Seward to do this. Most who arrange transportation from the ship or to the ship in Seward never see Seward.
AuroraRose Posted November 4, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 4, 2019 I highly recommend Kroschel Wildlife Reserve in Haines. Our ship didn't actually stop in Haines; we booked an excursion where we took a fast ferry from Skagway and back. Guaranteed wildlife sightings of a bear, moose, wolf, and many other native animals, and you can get really up close and personal with many of them! The owner is eclectic to say the least, but I don't know many other places where you can take a selfie with a living porcupine or kiss a real moose! Here's all about my husband's and my experience there this past summer (It's post #34 in the trip report in case it doesn't bring you right to that comment; I also promise I will get around to finishing this trip report eventually!):
