NCL Star engine repairs.

Hello everyone. I am wondering if the Star has been repaired yet?

Marine Traffic shows that the ship averages a top speed of 20 knots. I do not have full access to that site, so I do not know if the information is current. I am wondering if the itinerary to the ABC islands at the end of March will be altered?

Most of the time, NCL ships don't need / want to run all 4 engines to drive the pods, power generation, etc. onboard - fuel consumption/economy being among the reasons.  If she is averaging 20 knots, then it suggested to me that all 4 engines were running - similar to a car engine with 6,000 or 7,000 rpm redline, it is more efficient to run in the optimal range - somewhere between 2,000 to 3,000 rpm on ours and that's above the posted speed limit in gears.

Chef ChangKP75 should be able to offer his tech expertise on this - on this class of ships, it's fairly common to run between 15 to 20 knots, maybe 21 or 22 knots with a good tailwind - of course, we've been/rode them at 23 to 24 knots, almost 25 when pushed to "punch" thru bad weather, rough seas & get away from stormy weather.  Passenger/crew or ride comfort, tend to take a toll.

Relax, plenty of time for any & all regular maintenance and some of the "repairs" can be done with techs & engineers onboard, depending on the issues, parts & work required.  Distance between some of the ports, including the ABC aren't that far apart ... not like going across the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico, etc.

Thank you for your reply mking8288. I was a little concerned because the ship leaves from Port Canaveral. We are just past final payment and have been making our excursion and dining reservations. I hope for no major changes, but will go with the flow.

I am glad to hear that you have not had major changes. This was the first trip in a while that I did not use a casino voucher, and picked the March trip specifically for Bonaire. It is our shortest stop on the trip so I hope it does not change.

I have had itinerary changes in the past. Sometimes it works out better, like a last minute stop in Martinique due to a hurricane damaging other ports. This led to us going on another cruise the following year because we had missed Tortola, and we just had to go back there so I could cross The Baths in Virgin Gorda off my bucket list. Sometimes you just remember being disappointed because your Hawaii and Kiribati cruise didn't go to Kiribati due to a medical emergency. Either way we will enjoy being at sea relaxing on our balcony!
