Cruise Reviews Epic...YIKES!

Epic is a one of a kind ship.  I never understood the bathroom layout complaints.  If you’re sharing a cabin with someone you don’t know well and/or not “involved” with in some form, perhaps the Epic isn’t your first choice.  But, my GF and I found it just fine and actually preferred the ability to have one person shower, apply makeup, do business, etc separately from the other person.

As far as smoke is concerned....yeah, that’s going to be an issue on all but the latest NCL ships (which have smokers walled off in the casino).  True of all ships, on all cruise lines, that offer smokers an inside area to smoke, though.

Epic has one of the best HAVENs in the entire NCL fleet.

Lots of innovative features at the time when the Epic first sailed.  It’s still quite a modern and innovative ship and you’ll find many of its features on other NCL ships as a result.

Embarkation/disembarkation really isn’t a function of how good/bad ships are, but on many other factors not associated with the ship itself.

I’d sail EPIC again in an instant.  She offered one of my favorite cruises of all time.

Just to calibrate your assessment, how many times have you sailed on the Epic? We have been on the Epic 7 times and all of the -away class ships (including the Encore) 1 to 5 times each. We have also been in all of the Oasis class ships and some of the Quantum class ships by way of comparison.

Once and once was enough.  Should we try to one up each other on ship visits and knowledge?

I was on the December 8th sailing out on San Juan. Besides the debacle of embarkation, that was really only the issue we had the whole trip. Everything else was great. We attended the captains reception on the cruise and they were beyond apologetic for the embarkation issues which weren’t NCL’s fault. The port is not designed for massive traffic and there were 2 cruises embarking that day (plus the delay on letting passengers off the TA) so it was a perfect storm, but not NCLs or the ships fault. My husband and I agreed we will never sail out of San Juan again for that reason, but not the Epic’s fault!

Yes the ship is quirky and the layout is unique, but nothing that impacted our ability to enjoy! We were in the Haven and loved Posh and the open pool area. We were on the Bliss last year for a Caribbean cruise and I loved that ship, but would have to say I prefer the Epic Haven over Bliss Haven!

The ports on this Western Caribbean were awesome! We loved Curaçao, Aruba, St Kitts and St Lucia. We have done Eastern Caribbean many times but never Western Caribbean and the ports were a welcome change with plenty of port time each stop.

Go and have a great time! We did!
