transportation to port

It would be great if you could be more specific like telling us where you are starting from etc?

There is not really a great public transit option to get to San Pedro if that is the port you mean in LA.

Since you live in SoCal you know that buses are most frequently used as public transit and they are not easy to use with luggage!!

The only alternative I know to the parking garage fee is to pay for a hotel and parking option offered at one of the nearby hotels.

IF you mean San Pedro then the hotels most often used are the Crowne Plaza, the Doubletree San Pedro and the Best Western San Pedro.

Depending on your dates they may not be inexpensive!

Depending on where you are in SoCal, you might find a friend to drive you to the pier, and pick you up upon return. My parents lived in nearby Redondo Beach and did this all the time when cruising out of San Pedro...never cruised out of Long Beach, but it should be pretty much the same.

Otherwise, Uber/Lyft would be your best option.

Are you coming from LAX or downtown Los Angeles?

There is public transportation, but you would have to be adventurous to use it. From terminals at LAX you would first need to get a shuttle to the Green Line Aviation/LAX station, from there the Metro train to Harbor Freeway, and from there Silver Line express bus down to San Pedro. Alight at Harbor Beacon Park Ride Southbound, and walk a few minutes to Pier 92/93.
