1corona4u Posted February 11, 2006 #101 Share Posted February 11, 2006 I'll be sure to wave!!!! :) I can't wait! I have been looking forward to the Jewel since I booked on the NOS, because at that time, it was a toss-up between the two. But I decided to go with the bigger of the two. Probably did that backwards, but I knew what both of them looked like inside and out. Who knows, if the NOS goes to the West Coast, I guess I will be a Radiance class cruiser....not sure I want to do any of the other Voyager class..... But I do want to do the Panama Canal soon too, so Maybe the Brilliance will be next.

Scotia Piper Posted February 11, 2006 #105 Share Posted February 11, 2006 Welcome Back, Can't wait to hear your review, we sail on her April 1st doing the western route as well. Don't leave out any details, even if they seem insignificant. I do have a couple of questions that everyone always asks. 1. If you saved copies of the Compass which nights were which in the diningroom? Planning to book reservation at Portifinos and Chops and want to do figure out which nights. 2. Did you stay on ships time or did you adjust for different time zones? Booked an excursion in GC and now paranoid about the time, need to meet Cpt.Bryans at 8:45am GC time. Awaiting patiently, love the different ship reviews. Thanks Lynne

coach_anne Posted February 11, 2006 #107 Share Posted February 11, 2006 Welcome home to snowy (but blizzard-free) Ra-cha-cha! :) SO glad you had a good cruise -- we've been kinda holding our breath waiting to hear from you. Would love to meet sometime and compare NOS and other cruise-addict notes! Warmly, Another Rochesterian...

The only other CC I met in person was someone I "ran into" at work....long story...but she remembered my pic in my post and said.... "Hey aren't you on Cruise Critic?" It was a nice day here today even if it was cold. I was soooo happy to see my kittens. They finally forgave me for leaving and the female was sitting on my lap again. the kids will be here tomorrow, but I am sure they didn't miss me. I haven't gotten my head straightened out yet. The house is rocking! I figure a good cranberry and vodka in my RCCL souvenier glass will do the trick :) Can't remember off hand which nights were what, but I do have all the compasses and will post all the info. I will try and take pics of the compasses for you so you can see them. We stayed on ship time the entire cruise. The only time change we would have had was in Cozumel. They were an hour behind ship time. I would book a later excursion in GC. If you can't MAKE SURE you wake up early and get in line for tender tickets. :)
Cruising89143 Posted February 12, 2006 #110 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Bobbie, looks like you were lucky with your flight today. Any later and you may have been stuck in Miami. Not a bad city to be stuck in but when you want to get home, you want to get home. :)

Not a bad city to be stuck in but when you want to get home, you want to get home. :) HMMM Rochester vs. Miami...... I'll take Miami. I was hoping we would be stuck in Fort Lauderdale. We asked for a bump, but the flight wasn't full and actually landed half an hour early. Oh well. We landed to a nice snow covered city. Hours before that we were in the taxi with the windows down, the hot sun beating on my face and looking at palm trees. Well, with the woodburning stove full blast and the nice sunburn I still have, I can dream.....LOL Bobbie
Scotia Piper Posted February 12, 2006 #112 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Thanks Bobbie. Looking forward to it. We are going to get the same storm you guys are getting, sounds like it is to start here tomorrow afternoon so will have plenty of time to read your review. Great another lovely N'or easter. You know you guys could stop sending them up here we are quite capable of getting our own snow;):). Oh well, have been really luck for weather this year, winter did not start until February. Wish I was going sooner. Lynne
krazy4kruzin Posted February 12, 2006 #113 Share Posted February 12, 2006 We just got home from the NOS 2/4/06. I was reading thru this thread trying to figure out what the "boo boo"was. The only thing I could think of was the missing Labadee. And I LOVE Labadee, but what can you do? It was nobody's fault, we had to suffer staying on a luxury hotel, drinking drinks, lazing around the pools, overeating....oh the humanity!!!! We had such a good trip we booked the Explorer western, which has Belize and Costa Maya, which we've never been to. Now I'm a little concerned. Some reviews of the Explorer are less than favorable. Is that just the malcontents who like to complain or is there something to it? I can cancel up to 70 days prior and my booking date isn't until Dec. Any feedback?:D

You can find positive & negative reviews for just about any ship, itinerary or port of call. Don't assume that your experience & opinion will match that of those you've read. We'll be on Explorer for a NJ-Bermuda sailing in June -- our son's getting married on board :D -- so if there's anything you want me to check out (or anything you think I need to look out for  ), please let me know. Our next cruise after that will also be going to Belize & Costa Maya, but on Carnival this time.

krazy4kruzin Posted February 12, 2006 #116 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Thanks Coach Anne. There was nothing too specific...just things like the ship is showing a lot of wear for its age---sofa cushions, carpets, etc.; the staff seemed burnt out, the food was below par, little nit picky things that I THINK I would not even notice. Sometimes I think it's about expectations. I feel SO FORTUNATE to be as pampered as I am on a cruise. I've always felt it was SUCH a good value for the dollar. I will admit that in my 5 cruises, all on Royal Caribbean, I've had varying degrees of service, but nothing below par, just sometimes so ABOVE the mark that it stands out and then just "good" or even "very good" pales a little in comparison. I don't expect 5 star, roll out the red carpet, stop the presses service. I just want to know that on the Explorer, a Voyager class ship, I won't be disappointed. I tend to think that I won't be. I'd just appreciate a little reassurance. So Coach, if you'll post a review after the cruise, I'd appreciate it. Thanks so much and Happy Sailing!! I envy you. I know I just got back, but it's like when I'm going into the gym for my workout and I see someone coming out, having finished his workout, I think "I wish I had just finished MY workout!" Thanks for your input.:D
dbarry Posted February 12, 2006 #117 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Your pictures of the canopy tour are awesome! Just how did you do that? I will probably want to hold on with both hands, but I would love to have pictures of the experience. It looks like so much fun. Was that water I saw in a couple of the pictures? We are going on the Mariner in a couple of weeks, and this is one of the many things that I am looking forward too. Tell me that it was awesome, a little thrilling, but not scary. I've been waiting for a while for this cruise for so long, I hope those seven days don't fly by quickly. Glad to hear that you had a great time on the Navigator. This will be my first time on a "big" ship. I am so excited. Darlene:D

SUZCRUZ Posted February 12, 2006 #119 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Can't wait for your review. Gotta tell you though, it's a good thing you got back to your kitties. Our warm weather is now a howling, misty, cold rain and we're getting the coldest weather of the season. I have a question for you. We are booked on the Navigator in Sept, and since she is such a big and beautiful ship, we were thinking 7 days wouldn't be enough, and doing a back 2 back. Would this be TOO long? Captain Crunch Posted February 12, 2006 #121 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Bobbie, we're going on our 1st family cruise on the NOS in March. Western Carib. Where did you tender and where did you port? If you did any snorkling, the kids are so excited to snorkle, did the hurricanes really hurt the reefs? How on Earth do yu cruise so much?, very envious! Why no dining room meals? Is the Windjammer menu essentially the same as the dining room. Was there a problem getting Chops and Portifino reservations? Did you win at the casino? Look forward to your review, we're sitting under about 10 inches of fresh snow here in the Mid Atlantic area, I'm sure you're about to be hit by more.\\Thanks Cap'n Crunch
Twaincruisers Posted February 13, 2006 #122 Share Posted February 13, 2006 Bobbie, thanks for the photos...brings back memories of our two cruises on NOS in 2004...on the first one we, like you, were unable to go to Labadee due to the political unrest. We found Labadee to be beautiful and fun when we made it there in Dec that year. One of our great enjoyments was trying wine flights at Vintages--gave the opportunity to sample more expensive wines than we normally do. Mojitos was also great for the drinks, music, and watching the dancers. One of our favorite things to do on Voyager and Radiance class ships is to go out on the bow to the heli pad to watch sunsets, full moons, sailaways, etc. Glad you had a good time.
