lixogab Posted January 14, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2020 I'm planning the upcoming NZ cruise and one of our port will be Gisborne. Unlike all other NZ ports there is not much information on Gisborne. Even viator doesn't offer any excursions. Tripadvisor shows some attractions (Rere falls, etc) but they are beyond walking distance from the port. Car rentals are mostly closed because of NZ national holiday. There is "Dive Tatapouri" that offers stingray encounter, but they are located 7 miles from Gisborne and apparently don't offer transportation. Any ideas and sharing past experience will be appreciated.
possum52 Posted January 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2020 When we visited Gisborne, I chose to stay onboard as I had a sore foot but my husband went into the town centre, taking the shuttle from the tender wharf. He wandered around for a few hours, and visited a market and shopped and then walked around the waterfront before making his way back to the wharf to take the tender back to the ship. None of the excursions offered appealed to us. Leigh

My husband just checked his photos and there is one of a young woman from the i-Site speaking to passengers and it looks like a tent set up for the i-Site. Jamietravelstheworld Posted January 14, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2020 Have you tried googling shore excursions Gisborne? There are lots of other sites besides Viator such as Get Your Guide, and there are often local companies as well.
lixogab Posted January 16, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted January 16, 2020 The cruise company shore excursions are crazy overpriced , but there are few. I was not able to find any alternative company offering shore excursions in Gisborn. Some of them even put ads on Google but when I search, nothing is actually offered. That's what we found when looking for excursions at Gisborne - none of the ship's ones interested us and we found none offered online. Tansy Mews Posted January 17, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2020 We have booked with Gisborne Tours. Wineries, plus a welcome at a marae. (The marae visit is an addition we requested.) Nisbet has been good to deal with. http://www.gisbornetours.nz Frances
