nhrenee Posted June 6, 2006 #176 Share Posted June 6, 2006 I wish you the best of luck on your venture to Chac-Chi...it is a great place with wonderful & friendly owners (one even speaks good english!). Just be sure to keep looking for the hole directly across from the commisary, it's tough to spot at first, but it is there!:D I just wanted to tell you "way to go". They are so nice at Chac-Chi I glad you made such an effort to go.
SomewhereBeyondTheSea Posted June 7, 2006 #177 Share Posted June 7, 2006 I planned to go to Chac-Chi on Friday when I was there, but with 17 people it wasn't easy. Everyone liked the way "Tequilla Beach Club" sounded...but I have to tell you what a waste of time. We thought Tequilla Beach Club was horrible until we walked up to Pez Quadro's and all of the other little beaches in Majahual. There was trash everyone. After seeing these beaches compared to the beautiful beaches in Grand Cayman and Honduras, my friends decided to not try another beach in Costa Maya. So we headed to the pool at the port. We ended up having a pretty good time here. So in my opinion if you plan to go to a nice beach in Costa Maya opt for Chac Chi from what I can see from the terminal it's the place to go to and probably the best place within the cecinity for good fresh seafood. I'm sorry that I missed out. :(
coolestwife Posted June 7, 2006 #178 Share Posted June 7, 2006 FYI....we were in Costa Maya on the 5/21/06 Victory. Here is an excerpt from my (in progress) review.... We docked in Costa Maya at 8am and it was beautiful!! Got some pictures from our balcony of Chac Chi resort that is next to the port area and we were really excited to go through the hole in the fence to relax there all day. We waited for a bit to disembark so there wasn’t a huge crowd when we left. We set off using the directions to “the hole in the fence” that I found over on the Port of Call board. As we were coming up on the intersection to the fenced area, a family of 5 came to us and the mom asked if we were trying to get into the resort. We said yes and she said that at the secondary entrance a taxi driver told them that they couldn’t go in there. So we said, “Follow us! There’s another way in!” We walk past this little grocery and at the end of the street there is a guard standing there and he also told us no entrance. They are working on connecting some of the roads to the resort and he refused to let us through (DH even offered him some $$ to look the other way…no go). The other lady with us said that she had e-mailed the resort the prior Thursday and they told her no problem, that they welcome the cruise passengers at the resort. So we walked around to the entrance she had tried 1st and talked to the same taxi driver. He said, apparently the port owner and the resort owner had some sort of argument regarding allowing the cruise passengers onto the resort property and now no one but resort guests can go over there! LL I was sort of upset, because I’m sure the resort would love to have the $$ from all the cruise passengers and their beach area is soooo beautiful and pristine. Oh well…so we grabbed on of the cabs over to the beach area on the other side of the port at $2 per person. We sat in the shade of a canopy at the Cat’s Meow and had Pacifico beer and chips & salsa all day…not a bad way to relax!
thekidsmom Posted June 7, 2006 #179 Share Posted June 7, 2006 thanks, coolestwife for the update. We were planning on 'going thru the fence' in November.....I hope something changes by then! Did you email Chac Chi after the cruise to let them know what had happened?
78Nole Posted June 7, 2006 #180 Share Posted June 7, 2006 thanks coolest wife for the update......We are going in 2 weeks and were planning to spend the day there, hopefully it will all get straight by then. I will be so disappointed if we don't get there. I even thought about booking the room at Chac-Chi, just so we could go there. Still might do that. SomewhereBeyondTheSea Posted June 7, 2006 #181 Share Posted June 7, 2006 If it makes you feel any better, I noticed quite a few people there on Friday. I'm not sure if they were cruise passangers or if they were booked through the resort.

KJPG Posted June 10, 2006 #183 Share Posted June 10, 2006 Anyone tried to go to Chac Chi sometime at the end of May, beginning of June? We leave in a week and I've been looking forward to going. Coolestwife - did you try the hole in the fence that is directly across from the grocery?
eLav8 Posted June 11, 2006 #184 Share Posted June 11, 2006 Anyone tried to go to Chac Chi sometime at the end of May, beginning of June? We leave in a week and I've been looking forward to going. Coolestwife - did you try the hole in the fence that is directly across from the grocery? The hole was there in Mid-May...I am sure it is still there somewhere. I think Coolest probably passed by it, like I did at first, thinking it was the hole to enter the construction area, which is not the right one. Starz723 Posted June 12, 2006 #186 Share Posted June 12, 2006 I emailed Cha Chi resort to find out the deal the on the guard thats posted by the hole. I also asked if the hole was still there. Unfortunately, we are not in the USA and free enterprise is not quite the same. It seems that the "Pier Owner" is really making it hard for the owner of Cha Chi to get any of our business. I dont like thugs. I wont support that pier. The nerve of them trying to strong arm this poor guy. I am going to do my best to use Cha Chi's facilities. Im going to round up my cruise critic roll call buddies and see if we cant go there as a group. Here is a perfectly wonderful beach resort with good food & drinks at cheap prices. Here is his reply to me. I am going to reply back and ask him, "what if the guard is there, what would you recommend I do". Perhaps, he should send one of his employees to the hole in the fence to assure people can get on his property. Hi, the hole in the fence is still there. Some days they put security to avoid people to cross by it, but this is not daily. We hope that the day you come there is no problem to cross and spend the day with us. If you have more questions please let me know. Joaquín R.

Perhaps, he should send one of his employees to the hole in the fence to assure people can get on his property........ I feel the same way, and also just received the same e-mail reply from the owner. We will try our best to get over there on June 30. I think some in our Roll Call were also thinking about going, but might be getting cold feet after that one post about the holes being blocked. Here are my thoughts: If one of the holes aren't being blocked.... no problem. If there is a security guard at one of the "holes" we'll just ask... all he can do is say no. As for one of the previous posts where there was a taxi driver blocking the other hole, I don't know what authority he has to keep people out. While I won't get into an altercation with him, it seems his argument was "no one but resort guests can go over there." Well, I think I'll type up a piece up paper that looks like a reservation for the resort to carry with us. It has usually been my experience that if you act like you know what you're doing, seem shocked that someone would even question where you're going, and then back it up with some kind of paper document (clipboards worked wonders in the military ;)), then you'll sail right through. I have faith that we'll be able to get through one of the holes! But if not, then we'll just head over to Mahahual and find a nice place to set up camp for the day. I'll be sure to report back what happens. John

At least look for them and give it a shot, and if you can't get through just head over to Mahahual for the day and steer clear of the port area. Good Luck! Eliot Ness Posted June 12, 2006 #190 Share Posted June 12, 2006 No....we saw that opening, but it was wired closed...very tightly wired closed.....we would have needed wire cutters to get throughThanks for the info coolestwife, it gives us an idea of what we might expect to find, although I hope the problem is solved very soon. I have a question about where the other two holes are located. The one that was (when you were there) wired shut is right across from the little grocery, correct? Then the one where you saw the guard was farther down the road from the grocery? How about the one where the taxi driver was blocking it, was that along the fence before you turn right where the little grocery is located? Thanks, John
thekidsmom Posted June 12, 2006 #191 Share Posted June 12, 2006 There has got to be another way into this place--obviously their employees get there every day.......do I remember a post re: a cab being able to get to the front of the resort? I'm thinking that if we took a cab ride into the resort, we could at least walk OUT of the place through the fence without being harassed!!! Any ideas? Starz723 Posted June 13, 2006 #195 Share Posted June 13, 2006 I will definetly let you know what he says when he answers me. In the beginning of this thread is the cha chi resort web page. It shows you a map and how to get to the beach resort by taxi. From the pier, its an out of the way trip up a road then back down towards the resort. Keep in mind this is a new port and was built fairly recently. Cha Chi, on the other hand, has been there for awhile and was accessed through a main road north of the pier. I believe people came down to it from Cozumel & Cancun. I just think its a shame and it goes to show you how in other countries people can bullied by others. As we know, in the USA, this wouldnt happen.
Starz723 Posted June 13, 2006 #196 Share Posted June 13, 2006 Hi Everyone! Good news from Joaquin..He will meet you at the fence and escort you in!! Here is his reply to me and I suggest you email him Cha_Chi@hotmail.com if you plan on visiting. This is comforting to know. Dear Marge, We can arrange to see you by the fence the day you arrive to Costa Maya, just let me know at what time you plan to come to the resort and how many people are planning to come. Please confirm us a few days before your visit to Costa Maya. We will be happy to have you at our resort, Joaquin
Cruise, J.D. Posted June 13, 2006 #197 Share Posted June 13, 2006 I'm going to try to get to Cha Chi on June 26th. I will be on the Carnival Holiday scheduled to arrive at 12:00 . . . so I am conservatively guessing 2:00 as a meeting time at the fence if anyone else wants to join in. 5forcruise Posted June 13, 2006 #199 Share Posted June 13, 2006 Marge, Please let us know after your trip how it went and especially what the resort is like. Is it the allure that draws people or is it really worth it. I was hoping for a close place to hang out with our family of 5. We are sailing in October. KJPG Posted June 14, 2006 #200 Share Posted June 14, 2006 We leave on the Glory this Saturday. I will e-mail Joaquin next Sunday to give him a heads up (I always buy internet time). I really like the idea of just sitting on a beach for an afternoon - especially since Costa Maya is our third port in a row.
