Hi we have booked a cruise from Singapore to Shanghai in April 2020 disembarking in shanghai then staying for 2days before flying back to Singapore .we are having trouble in identifying what visa we require is it a full visa or a 144 hour transit visa nobody will tell us what we require anybody else going on this cruise who can help.

Yes checked with princess who said we could use the 144hour visa but has anybody else using this 144 hour visa .?

Shaanghai? Check with the government of the Peoples Republic of China. That is the only place you can get the official information from. Do not rely on information from third parties.

I had a colleague who flew half way round the world using advice from a third party regarding visas.

The result was that he had been given incorrect advise which resulted in him never leaving the customs area and being deported.

We used the free 72 hour visa. The rule is you have to be coming from a non Chinese area ( Hong Kong counts as non Chinese) to a different country. We went from Hong Kong to Shanghai, stopped for three days then onto Kuwait.

The 72-hour visa-free transit policy in China allows air passengers from 53 countries to transit and stay for up to 72 hours (3 days) in 18 China cities without a visa. In order to facilitate international visitors' short stay in China, the policy is promising to be carried out in more and more cities in the future.

 

Many  on our cruise had paid for expensive visas that they did not need. For the 72 hour visa You need to have a copy of your travel itinerary, including the hotel voucher and onward flight details.

Looking at your ports as long as you are flying hone via a non Chinese airport then you can travel on the 72 hour visa.

the visa is given to you at the port, you don’t apply beforehand.

Yes we are using the 144 hour visa, which I understand is issued when we leave the ship. We are on the same cruise as you and staying 4 days in Shanghai post cruise.

All we need is proof that you are leaving China within the visa time limit and you just have to show them proof of your flights to Singapore. The only other restriction is that you cannot go out of the Shanghai general provincial area such as travel to Beijing.

Hi thanks for everybody’s input you have put my mind at rest over this issue so will go with the cruise visa , hope that there is room for us all in the immigration holding area.😥
