backforty Posted February 14, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2020 What 100% safe options are there for a woman and young child to do in St Thomas? (not a booked excursion) 1. Is there a decent beach within a 5 minute walk from dock? If so , how do you get there? Is it free? 2. If not, where is the closest decent beach, and how do you get there? 3. What are my other (safe) options that would occupy a young child for the day and not cost much? I've been once before, and we took the ferry to St John for the day. It was amazing, but we didn't have a child in tow. Wold like to do something different this time- something easy with less moving parts (less hassle and less things that could go wrong). Ms411 Posted February 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2020 No beach within 5 minute walk from either dock. The docks are so large that it takes 5 minutes or more to get outside the confines of the port area. Your best option would be to do what many other families do which is to take a group taxi waiting at the dock to Magens Bay Beach. Fare ranges from $8-10 per person each way and there's a fee to get in. There are 2 docks and you didn't say which ship you're on. If you're on Royal Caribbean/Celebrity Emerald Beach is very close, free beach, $4 per person each way from that dock.
Love2CruiseTampa Posted February 14, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2020 True, there isn't a beach within walking distance really. Magens would be good for a visit, as would Sapphire. Either can be reached via the shared taxi for around $10 per person. Magens has an entry fee, Sapphire does not. We like Sapphire as it is less crowded, however Magens has reliably calmer water. We also bought off Amazon some cheap inflatable tubes to float in the water, that was nice.
pacruise804 Posted February 14, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2020 I've seen you post for several other islands, so this might be a good stop to stay on the ship since you can have a cheaper/closer beach day at GT and SXM.
poohdreaming Posted February 15, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2020 You & your child can take a cab to coral world. There's the coki beach next to it.
