kokopelli-az Posted February 25, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2020 We have only used Uber a couple of times and there are just two adults, 2 suitcases and 1 collapsible wheelchair. We have always requested an Uber XL (which has been a large SUV) to ensure that there is sufficient room for the wheelchair. Has anyone with a collapsible wheelchair had any luck requesting an Uber X and the wheelchair fitting? I'd rather order the Uber X if I was confident that the trunk or storage of the vehicle would accommodate the wheehchair.
Cruseforme Posted February 26, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2020 I know you’ve thought of this, but here’s my take...We’ve had everything from a Camry to a Prius, and everything small in between pick us up ordering an Uber X. Do you have any friends with a Prius? Try the wheelchair in it, see if it fits, try a Ford Escape, or another small car..not sure anyone can tell you exactly yes or no, as there are 15 or so styles of cars that are acceptable for Uber X rides (per search on Uber X in google). Dodge Charger Toyota Prius Dodge Charger Toyota Prius BMW 3 Series Kia Sorento & Optima Ford Escape Nissan Maxima Toyota Camry Honda Accord Ford Escort Hummer H3 Ford Fusion Ford Crown Victoria Nissan Altima Chevrolet Equinox Chrysler 200 & 300 ** Not all cars are shown above. This list is just to give you an idea. fmlsprtsfn Posted March 1, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2020 (edited) If you are like us, it is easier for my husband to transfer into a car than an SUV or mini van so we prefer Uber X. You do have the ability of selecting a vehicle based on the ones in the area. The app says to enter your destination in app and swipe up to see all vehicle options available. Tap one to select your ride, then tap "choose Uber x" button. Edited March 1, 2020 by fmlsprtsfn
travelbug11 Posted March 2, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2020 I can tell you that a folding wheelchair will not fit in a Ford Escape. The trunk is too small. The Toyota's are much better. We have a wheelchair and a walker with a seat and they both fit in the trunk. Just be sure to use to use Uber X.

The ability to select a specific vehicle is not active in all areas. In most of Europe outside of Ireland and the UK, the Uber X's are not Prius' and a wheel chair will not fit in the very small trunks. We've had times that we couldn't get a 22" and 20" rolling bag into the trunk, and one had to go in the front passenger seats.
