Rare MicCanberra Posted March 14 #13782 Share Posted March 14 I arbor no ill feelings for that remark. I am travelling so didn't want answer as I may not have WiFi til much later in the day. I also only have access to photos from this trip in Egypt. 1

I should have also said it is your turn. The lake was good enough. The background is part of the National Arboretum. Good play on words from Mic. Rare lyndarra Posted March 15 #13798 Share Posted March 15 (edited) We used to build models of battleships when we were kids and knew many of the parts and functions of warships. The Graf Spee and Bismark and the HMS Hood were among the most popular models. It is a range finder from the Graf Spee which was scuttled off S America in WW2. It is in Motevideo. Bowm54 Posted March 15 #13800 Share Posted March 15 (edited) Correct, the German battleship was damaged during the 1st sea battle of WW2, known as the Battle of the River Plate, couldn't repair itself locally so scuttled itself off Montevideo. The NZ ship Achilles was the first ship to go into battle under the NZ flag. 75th anniversary commemoration in Auckland.
