This is all great advice and I do like the idea of a visit and stay at the Iguazu falls. Our son was there 2 years ago and the photos are incredibly. Iguazu Falls was one of the highlights of our trip. We looked at cruise line tours. They were grossly overpriced. We found it very straightforward to book our own air (Aerolineas) and hotel (Argentine side) About 1/3 of the cruise line price. We stayed in town. There is frequent bus service to the park. A park guide is NOT needed. As an aside we noticed that when we went to the Aerolineas Argentina web site there were more flights offered and they were all about 30 percent less than prices on web booking sites. We called the 1-800 Aerolineas number. The agent advised us that we could access these flights and prices only if we called the Aerolineas call centre in BA. She said english was not an issue and she gave us the number, country code, etc. We are essentially on the same time zone. I called, fifteen minutes later air was reserved.

We spent three nights there at the Gran Melia right in the park on the Argentina side. We took a day trip to the Brazil side. It was one of the highlights of our South America trip and we would love to go back again. So you wouldn't spend time in BA, all of it in IF? Wow, you really did like it 🙂 We could spend at least a week in BA. And two nights was enough for IF. We loved it but that was plenty for us.
