Aulanis Posted April 20, 2021 #1026 Share Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) We have done land tours along north africa Libya , Tunisia Algeria & Morocco. Dont know if any cruises get to Libya or Algeria (Phoenix Reisen do!) but if you get the chance it is very interesting. Leptis Magna in Libya is a fantastic Roman settlement and there are many in Algeria. I dont have Digital pics of Libya but have a few of Algeria cut down from hundreds! I will split them up so it looks less 😉 Could have deleted the hotel lift and our room but these are attractions in themselves! and a few of Casablanca in 2019 visited on a TA . First up is Algiers Edited April 20, 2021 by Aulanis

Dermotsgirl Posted April 20, 2021 #1028 Share Posted April 20, 2021 We had a holiday to Sousse in Tunisia in the 80's and did quite a few of the main sites in Tunis, Sidi Bou Side, Carthage and Kairouan. We called at Tunis on a cruise in 2007, and in order to do something different, we went to an archaeological site we didn't remember from before, although I can't remember the name of it now
Aulanis Posted April 20, 2021 #1029 Share Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) Over the hills and a few pics of a better restored site then Thermal Pool Rock formation area then a mosque. # Edited April 20, 2021 by Aulanis
Aulanis Posted April 20, 2021 #1030 Share Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) And a few (honest) of Casablanca. We walked out to the Mosque but couldnt get in then walked back in towards the town then on to the ship. Amazed at the modern train station and its close to the port so might consider a train ride if we ever go again. Izzywiz Posted April 21, 2021 #1031 Share Posted April 21, 2021 Thank you everyone for posting the amazing photos of North Africa. There is so much history in that part of the world so it is very sad that the political situation in the region prevents us all from visiting now. Today we are in the Azores as we start a circuitous route back to Southampton. Tomorrow we dock in Iceland so get out the woolly jumpers! My visit to the Azores in 2014 was the culmination of a long held wish to visit the islands. My Dad had been stationed there towards the end of the war as an air traffic controller working with transatlantic flights and the submarine detecting aircraft. He spoke with great affection of the islands themselves and always had a hydrangea bush in the garden to remind him of the hydrangea hedgerows that criss-cross the islands. Unfortunately, we visited in April so it was too early for them to be in bloom. I was amazed to see that I could still identify places from his photographs after so many years. We have another trip booked to go back in 2022 so fingers crossed. Terceira...

I loved seeing the photos of all the archeological sites and sad we missed our chance of seeing some of them. I see some cruises next year are going to Tunis but I do not reckon we shall visit. Aulanis Posted April 21, 2021 #1034 Share Posted April 21, 2021 (edited) Our only visit to the Azores, as we usually do on a first visit we just walked the port town unless there is something specific we want to see. It was a lovely day so lots to see in Ponta Delgada Having re visited out pics I notice the Flags on the quay again must have noticed them when there as I took several pics of them. They spell out Georgiana Leonard and here is why:http://www.khandossos.com/works/georgiana/ Edited April 21, 2021 by Aulanis

Gettingwarmer Posted April 21, 2021 Author #1036 Share Posted April 21, 2021 On all four of our port days in the Azores it rained and none of our photos are as good as those previosly seen. On our last trip we did visit the botanic garden (some pictures already posted by Aulanis) and also a pineapple farm so I will post those.
Ardennais Posted April 21, 2021 #1037 Share Posted April 21, 2021 Little did I think back in February 2020 that Ponta Delgada would be our last port of the year!
Dermotsgirl Posted April 21, 2021 #1038 Share Posted April 21, 2021 We've been into Ponta Delgada two or three times on trans Atlantic Cruises. These pictures are from March 2016. It was a grey day, but I like the monochrome look with the black and white buildings
Izzywiz Posted April 22, 2021 #1039 Share Posted April 22, 2021 We arrive in Iceland this morning and are docked in Reykjavik Tomorrow we sail to northern Norway. As Norway is such a popular destination and has such a long coastline, I have divided our port stops into 3 sections over a 3 day period so the first one involves ports from Trondheim up to the North Cape. Here is Reykjavik...

Dermotsgirl Posted April 22, 2021 #1044 Share Posted April 22, 2021 Next day we visited Isafjordur. We did an excursion on a boat to the abandonded village of Hesteyri. The air was so clean and clear. In the afternoon our balcony was sunny and out of the wind, so we sat out in our shorts and t shirts, just below the Artic Circle. That night we saw the midnight sun. The whole day remains one of my favourite cruising days
Dermotsgirl Posted April 22, 2021 #1045 Share Posted April 22, 2021 Our final stop in Iceland was Akureyri. We did an excursion, but the names of the places we visited escape me at present
Aulanis Posted April 22, 2021 #1046 Share Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) Hmm! I am late today - wasnt going to post as I have 224 pictures to view and select. I will go for very few duplicates. Our first visit - no pics- was on a day trip from Manchester. I kid you not, it was amazing. Flew from Manchester around 6am and got back very very late the same day. We swam in the Blue Lagoon saw geysir, waterfalls, boiled eggs visited a thermal farm and lots more. End June 18 we went on Azura Ireland Scotland Reykjavik then Ísafjörður, and Akureyri Edited April 22, 2021 by Aulanis
