Flight home from Rome

We will be on the Carnival Pride 9/21/2022.  Carnival's website says we are due into Rome at 6AM.  We've never done Europe, so we have no idea how long it takes to clear customs/immigration/distance to airport, etc.  Most outbound flights seem to be around 11AM which seems a bit early.  What's everyone's thoughts on earliest flight to book back to the US?

If you look down the board, this is discussed here frequently.

 

There is rarely any issue with Immigration or Customs at Rome. The drive to Rome airport is about an hour. Rome airport (FCO) is a poorly organized airport...so you MUST allow at least 2 hours for the process, perhaps even another 30 minutes for comfort, as flights going direct to the US have to clear an extra layer of security.

 

11am is a common flight time, as the planes arriving at Rome from the US, between 7 and 8am turn around and go back. 11am is doable, but two things must be considered. First, flight schedules can change, and departing 30-45 minutes earlier is not uncommon for a schedule change. Second, you need to arrange your own transport from the ship, rather than wait for the ship's transfers, which may, or may not, be scheduled appropriately. There are many vendors mentioned here for private transfers. Our favorite is Rome in Limo, and great operation.

 

If your flight stops somewhere in Europe before going to the US, it is essentially a domestic flight, and you have a bit more time to work with.

 

Lastly, if you never been to Rome, try to spend a couple nights after your cruise. Otherwise you will be missing one o the most wonderful cities in the world.

Thanks for the info.  We are coming out 3 days early so will visit Rome pre-cruise.

We are doing the same cruise as you, but 2 sailings later.

So far, we are planning a 1 night stay near FCO before our flight back to Canada…..although if there are any afternoon or evening flights we will fly the same day...it’s too early to check flights for next year (We have 5 days in Rome before the cruise)
