cruiserdotcom Posted September 6, 2021 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2021 I want to visit both the DDay beaches and Mount St. Michel as separate excursions from my May TA on RCCL. Which port is the most sensible and complete to do these sights as individual excursions? Thanks for the help.
MeHeartCruising Posted September 7, 2021 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) I'm no expert here, but I believe I have read on this board in the past that doing both really isn't feasible due to the distances and the time needed at each location. If it would be, I would think it must be done from Cherbourg and would only include the western-most Normandy beaches, which may not include what you want to see. Have you found an excursion that does both? Edited September 7, 2021 by MeHeartCruising
caripoo Posted September 10, 2021 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2021 Either location is good for beaches, Le Havre being a little closer......Hard to do both beaches and other DDay excursions and Mont St Michel in the same day.
Rare John Bull Posted September 12, 2021 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2021 Cherbourg is closer to the US D-Day sights - (30 minutes from Ste Mere-Eglise) vs Le Havre (1hour 40 from Omaha/American cemetery). But ships normally depart Le Havre later, 8.00pm vs 5.30pm, which pretty-well nullifies the convenience from Cherbourg. And do check hours in port for Cherbourg - some are only half-day. Cherbourg is also closer to Mont St Michel - just under 2 hours vs 2hrs 20 from Le Havre. As others have said, its not possible to sensibly do both in one port-of-call day.
