What's so special about HAL "Private Fares"?

…At one point I noticed that I was no longer receiving emails with special offers, so I called HAL to inquire…The rep that I spoke to told me that a lot of people who are already booked on a cruise do not care for receiving emails for more cruises...

The rep was happy to change my profile to include emails for all offers I am eligible for all the time.  Yay!  (This is something I am not able to do myself online.)  I get lots of offers from HAL now, maybe one or two per month plus offers from the casino.…

This would happen to me, as well. Like you, I was told the standard is to remove you from the list when you have an active booking, and then resume them some time after sailing.

The issue for some is that they have multiple cruises booked at once, so they might not get the emails or mailings.

I’ll try to find an old Post, but I’m pretty sure we too, were able to get an “override” last time we had a booking so we could still receive deals and promotions.

Yes you can get the Mariner society to do that.  You still may not get Mariner rates though.  I have 2 active bookings.  For the longest time I didn’t get any Mariner pricing.  About a month ago I did start to see some again for close in sailings.

Gotcha.....

Right now, the TA I use has better fares than what I've been seeing directly from HAL (w/the "private sale" emails) so I'm all good....Just like to pay as little as I can and don't want to miss out on where that may be.

Thanks for the info...may go blow some $$$ at the casino and see if that gets me in the casino fare world...or maybe not...LOL

I think most people want to pay as little as possible.  I’m not a gambler so I don’t see the casino pricing.  Now that said, I did on one Princess cruise spend a bit of time in the casino.  I didn’t bet a lot but I was there for a while.  I did get an email with very good pricing a while after, for about 1/2 of what I’d normally pay. It certainly wasn’t free.  I couldn’t take advantage as I’d just gotten back from a cruise.  This had to be at least 5 years ago.  I’ve never seen another offer since.

Private Fares in my experience can be a great buy, BUT the ones I have been getting over the last year are non-refundable and non-transferable deposits. That is a deal breaker for me!
